Brilliant! Vividly rendered in flawless flow and excellent rhyme. I always appreciate your poetry with its natural line breaks--makes for a smooth read, even without punctuation.

I enjoyed your contest entry, Beth. You did a great job with it. Your words are well chosen, they create great imagery, and your picture is awesome. Your words clearly describe the barn's past and your sense of wonder about it. I like the format used and the rhymes. Your words flow smoothly. I like the ending where you compared yourself to how the barn has aged, and mentioned you were open to try new things. That will keep you young.

The structure is strong.(,) though faded and gray

Best wishes.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Hello Beth
I read your free verse poem and found it very interesting and well written about an old barn that still strong once was not taken care of.

Bravo... unfortunately, many believe the old should be thrown out with the wash water, so to speak. Historic buildings are razed, so high rises and malls can be built. Great architecture is destroyed for modern, sleek, and cold structures. I'm glad your poem left the old barn with some sort of dignity, and we can only hope and pray... the younger generations will do the same with us. smiles, Carol

Thank you Carol, I appreciate your review and comments. I sure there are some that don't notice beauty and I out to make money be tearing down the old and putting up new and usually now as well constructed as the old.

I love the old barn, but I'm equally sure I'm like the old barn to the young, either that, or I'm invisible, heh. I love this Beth, although Elaine and I are still useful as auxiliary staff for the grands. This is beautifully written Beth, a lovely, expressive ekphrastic poem, well done, blessings Roy

This poem, The Barn by the Side of the Road, is well described to the reader, until it is finally compared to the speaker, who sees the structure as a metaphor for those who have lived a full life in one capacity, and can still live a full life in another. Neat.

I enjoyed reading your contest entry. I have often paused while driving wondered what stories old barns could tell. I know they have some. I also want to ask, why were your abandoned. Good luck with the contest./

Thank you for the review and comments. I think the old barn was once a part of a farm, but the city moved in an bought the land. Now it next to a business and they are using it to store stuff. I think they left it because people like old barns. I appreciate the review and comments.Beth
