Ignorance is bliss! Your parents brought up you and your sister happily totally unaware of any risks.I have heard about the terrible Huntington's disease.but it is rare .
You have written it very well bringing out your concerns, anxiety and later the sheer agony of wondering if your child is alright . Starting with Martha this personal account smoothly shifts into your own agonising days...

I'm not at risk for HD--I meant that the lab tech likened TSD to HD--which freaked me out--in fact, the adult-onset form is NOT like HD--in any event, I don't have it--I'm just a carrier for TSD.

It was a week from hell waiting between the scary possibility and the good news from the second lab. I got through it by watching the comedy movie "This is Spinal Tap" around the clock! Thanks for stopping by. Cheers. LIZ

    Delightful ssssssurprise!

How amazing that you live because of the grace of God, and an accident of birth. Because if they'd known, perhaps you and your sister wouldn't have existed. Beautifully written Liz, blessings Roy

I'd never heard of TSD, Liz, what a horrid wait you had. I take it your unborn baby was fine? What a worry! But, sometimes the not knowing what's going on inside you is far better than the knowing. Had your parents taken the test, you and your sister wouldn' t be here, and you wouldn't be telling us your story. Total nightmare! I'm sure your parents were relieved! Have a lovely Easter Sunday, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Elizabeth,

This is a powerful story you've written. The way you tell it, as we wait for the answer with you, kept me on the edge of my seat, as the saying goes.

I know a woman who has diabetes and she and her husband decided not to have children because of it. I always wondered if she made a mistake. It didn't seem to suit her to not have children, and her husband didn't want to adopt.

You and your sister could have been aborted when it wasn't necessary.

I'm so glad they didn't know and didn't need to make that choice.

Patricia

Wow! So you're a miracle! You wrote the agony part so well. That's why I refused the Down's Syndrome test offered me when I was pregnant with our youngest. I was already 34 and the doctor pushed me to get the test. We told him, it didn't matter - we'd keep the baby no matter what! It turned out that silly test was only 50% accurate!

I really feel for you on this one Liz. You have so many potential bombs ticking away in your genetic make-up. I don't know how you cope with it all with such aplomb and humour. You are one brave lady.

Liz! You couldn't have waited a couple of hours to post this? I'd love to have rewarded it with a 6-er. It had all the elements of a well-crafted mystery, right up to your Mom's and Dad's results. It had the welcomed verisimilitude of genetic research. And your character development (who knew more about you than you?), was over the top! I kept waiting for you to get caught when you were posing as a Nurse Assistant, and then found you had the cajones to admit you were the patient.

A gorgeous write, Liz!

Hello Liz.

This is quite an interesting story. I am aware of Huntington's disease but not TSD.

The manner in which you told the story is really well written. You were able to convey the tension and anticipation with words that fortunately most of us will never have to experience. That's technique is what I refer to as excellent writing

Wow! I don't know how I would've handled that had I been in your shoes. Very informative. I appreciate your openness. I hope you and your family are spared any future problems from this gene. Stay well.
