Dear JLR, I am so glad that I have a new supply of stars, and I gladly give you one, for the beautiful and nostalgic story that you tell in this free verse poem.
I know not if this is really true, or only fiction, but it's still a wonderful example of free verse poetry.

This FreeVerse is just wonderful and I love the nostalgia that you use to draw in the reader and keep their attention. Very well done, Jim. I enjoyed reading it.

This is a beautifully written free verse telling of a childhood memory that takes one back in time, if just for a moment. This is a very enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing.

A very nostalgic poem about memories of childhood that have lingered through the years, centred around the old home place. I like the whole poem but these lines stood out to me: "But that lone light ... I keep it on day in and day out.
So, on nights such as this, I do not forget my roots."

This is such a "feel good" piece of writing. I too have memories such as the ones you write about from many years ago.

I truly enjoyed reading this. It actually put me in a better mood as I sat here writing this review with my old aching bones letting me know that I'm not a youngster anymore. Thank you for that...

Happy Easter, my friend...Bill

A poem reminiscing of youth and the flickering light you describe is hauntingly and tantalisingly helping you to remember past times and sparking these memories of your roots, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

A powerful poem about childhood memories being kept alive as we get older. I too think back to my roots, which are very different from yours. I grew up in Berkeley in the late 60s mid-70's. But my maternal grandparents grew up in the Ozark mountains, which might not be that different from where you were born, so I can kind of relate to your story.

Thank you Jake, Berkeley in the 60's and 70's wow and yikes. Right in the midst of concrete, ocean bays and tall redwoods.

Great Poem! It is seasoned with detailed descriptions that convey your internal feelings that really enrich the text. The final part brings back the importance of "the" light that started the poem and then remains a little hidden among the other descriptions. Nice travel to your poetry!

"Homestead" by JLR takes the reader on a flashback journey that feels authentic and dream-like as well as happy and melancholy all at the same time. The old house is a symbol you hang your memories on.

Outstanding writing here, Jim as always from you.

"The flickering light, as though an old movie reel was
spinning to life memories of days gone by."

Also:
"Alas, my reverie comes full circle as the moon's full face
comes into view and lights the evening with longer shadows"

Brilliant writing, my friend
