We're getting closer to the meeting with Allen and the Bache's. And now the reader will be prepared with some additional information about Heather.
'I dunno how she'll take to it. In love with that Warburton, she were - back then.' [Okay! That was only implied in the last book. We knew that Tommy Warburton loved Heather, but didn't know it was reciprocated. (Of course I only came into the book late, at the point when the Owner of Jericho laid down the law in that "family meeting" about Tommy (the son) not being allowed to have anything to do with Hettie.)]
Thank you, Jim, for my weekly "More Grist to the Mill" fix.

Many thanks for this review. I tried to hint at Heather's feelings for Tom W by the way she called him 'My Tom', but her nursing and domestic responsibilities towards her mother and Jericho meant she had to push that love aside and she never felt she could let it surface.

Now begins the beginning of possibly the big reveal. I feel certain that Heather will reveal things about Tom Warburton that will explain him and his motives or open the door to even more questions that may or may not need answering. We shall see.

Needless to say, I am hooked and I cannot break free. Nor do I wish to.

Excellent chapter. It is great to get into the heads of Tommy and Heather. Clever that so many important conversations in this book take place over food and drink.
Also, very nice juxtaposition of Tommy talking to himself on his tractor, and Peter Allen talking to himself in the tub. They were both right in their assertions: Peter that there's no point in worrying once the jury is out and Tommy that modernization would soon change farming.
Lots of action here to move the plot forward, and you've left the reader itching for more.

It seem Heather and Tommy have a good relationship. Heather didn't get My Tom but she seems happy enough. I like the way we get to know what Tommy and Peter are thinking by having the talk out loud to themselves.

I am hoping this is true to life. I don't think many of us end up with our first loves however strong that emotion may be at the time. How this partnership developed will shortly be revealed.
Many thanks for your kind review.

I do enjoy getting to know Tommy Bache better here. He seems to be such a thoughtful man. I liked that you brought his thoughts aloud so that we had dialogue even when alone. I also liked how you brought us deep into Heather's memory banks so that her husband's voice sounds distant. Great post!
Question:
he handled it better nor Davey (I'm guessing this is colloquial British English to use "nor" instead of "than" here?)

Many thanks for this kind six star review. It is much appreciated. You are correct in your assumption that the 'nor' rather than the 'than' is a colloquialism, and rather a quaint one I have often thought. You will find it cropping up quite a bit in direct speech.

Jim,
No - I don't think Tommy should speak too ill of those lawyers going on a bit. hahaha But you set a charming picture of this sweet couple. This has become a comfortable love match - maybe not a passionate one, but definitely sweet.
Notes:
1.) Could keep chickens in them, I suppose(.)'
2.) That done, the engine's note steadied in a steady throb, and he settled
--> 'steady' x2
3.) 'What the devil are you up to, Peter?' (h)e said.
4.) (')Fit for a king, eh? And a queen o'course!' he added
Thanks!

Hey Jim. Great writing and balance of tension and dialogue. I really enjoyed this one and am revved up to read the next installment. I like it how Heather did not automatically remember the lawyer... it shows her devotion to Tom and not memories of the past. You keep things very interesting and I am enjoying this read!

Your title for this chapter is perfect - something for Heather and Tommy to think about, and something for us to think about.
Two little things: "There's good boy" - should it be a good boy?
Fit for a king, eh? And a queen o'course!' he added... There is no quotation mark at the beginning.

I am wondering how Heather is going to advise him to answer. I want to know the truth myself. I am pretty sure Hettie committed suicide because Tom J refused her, but we'll see.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. It shouldn't be too long now before the answer comes out.

You captured the innocence of Bache here as he is just a humble farmer and Heather has more information about the story with Hettie than he realises I expect, we will see, a fine write, much enjoyed, and here is your six, love Dolly x
