I can imagine that loss of a loved one. The grief caused by such an event is unexplainable and very hard to recover from. You're left with emptiness, along with many lonely days and nights. Thanks for sharing this intense and well written work. Well done!

Thank you for understanding the emotions and grief that is entwined with the words I write. Many have said I possibly stretched the feelings, but until they walk in my shoes and truly feel the pain, I doubt they understand. I appreciate your time and kind words. Smiles and hugs!

Lovely with a surprising ending. Grief's stages are hurtful at best but good memories smooth the rough edges. You have the perfect picture to set the tone of this writing.

I feel for the elderly, just reading, who've been together for many years, the parting must incredibly difficult, I'm at an age were one starts to think of these things, so I was thinking of this probably younger woman. An excellent entry in this 100 word dash contest, good luck, blessings, Roy

Thank you for taking the time to read and for your gracious comments. My husband and I had many many good years a few where he was very sick, but our love managed to survive the difficult times too. He recently passed and I've started writing again in order to find myself and move forward. Smiles and hugs!

Hi there,
It is funny how familiar places take on different meaning when circumstances change. there is a nice vein of emotion carrying through this one. I did feel tsunami of tears may be a bit much though.
All the best

I understand we all feel our emotions differently and I too have faced grief but nothing like the recent loss of my husband...thus the tsunami of tears. Thank you for reading, appreciating the story line and commenting. Smiles and hugs!

Sad thing to be in the place where once love flourished - for whatever reason, she's now alone - and perhaps time to move on, find new loves and goals. Good story

Nicely described from the warmth of the fireplace and the warmth of the memories of love and then the chilling cold of loneliness without her beloved. Well done in these few words. Best wishes in the contest.

Yes a moment of grief portrayed in all its harsh reality -generated by ever so fond memories of the beloved - and the 'tsunami of tears ' that it generates
