Ha! Ha! He certainly seems to have a habit of lurching from one disaster to the next. Not a man in the superhero mould!

Just what is Charles planning to do? I hope his new friend has better sense. And I thought he should have killed the guy! Why would Abdul Jaleel let anyone go? He'd still have the money. I hope Kayla has something up her sleeve.

I don't think poor Charles is very good at planning ahead. He just seems to lurch from one disaster to the next. Fortunately, he seems to have enough friends to see him through. At least, that has been the case so far.

Okay, the plot thickens. I am wondering if they will get Helen back safely, or not. Kayla, why'd it take her so long? Maybe she has a good reason, but I am not sure. Did she stop for tea or maybe a talk with Jeanne. I do question her. Thank you for another great post.

Thanks, Liz. I appreciate the review. The pears reference harks back to an earlier chapter in the story. Poor old Charles seems to lurch from one disaster to the next. I hope he survives!

Thanks, Dawn. Things do look a bit bleak for them at the moment, and Charles's ineptness isn't helping. The next chapter should bring things to a climax. I hope there are some survivors!

I liked this chapter; it had plenty of pretty intense suspense that built and built as it went on, and there was an underlying tension throughout. The scene with the Afghan that Charles comes across is really tense; we half expect him to pull his rifle on Charles or try to get that knife to take him prisoner. There's enough ambiguity in the writing to leave us guessing and it worked. Then there's Kayla showing up with the ransom money; I guess we know now that she is after freeing her sister after all, but this could still go very wrong and in the end of the chapter you have Charles forgetting his briefcase and the key in his coat, so there's lots of room for this to go in lots of directions. I think you have set up a great coming chapter. estory
