A very well-written acrostic about forty-two that explains in some way the meaning of life for the ordinary guys like us. I would have to go and do he research because it is the first time I heard that the number forty-two is an important factor.

lol! Thank you for your review. You know, I am really enjoying the responses of the 96.3% ! ;-) Let me know if you have time to look it up -- have a great day!
Comment from Ogden
This is almost nothing short of ingenious! - the poem itself, the clever visual presentation, and the key to the poem in the informative author's notes. (Saying nothing of the acrosticity, to boot.)
And, here goes my penultimate sixer!
Ogden (Don)
P.S. I suggest this reconsideration of the acrostic's last line:
"...their answer's forty-two!"

Good morning! I actually made that change last night when I checked my phone before bed, but I waited until this morning to respond because if my typing skills on a keyboard are 'fair', my 'texting' skills on that phone 'keyboard' suuuuuuucccckkkkkk!! lol! I would have been there forever trying to type this and then the stupid app 'corrects' some words (to the wrong word you didn't want - ugh!) and you're 'texting' things again... NOPE!! This is much better...
Thank you, THANK YOU, Don, for your awesome review and for that 'grammatical catch' for my crazy entry! I went to bed smiling and I'll be smiling all through tutoring sessions this morning! I've been enjoying the responses from the 96.3% out there and I'm not even sure if you're in the 3.7% that REALLY related and read Hitchhiker (or even watched the movie they made back in the early 2000's), but just knowing that you 'got' the whole package was just wonderful.... did I say I was still smiling?! You have a wonderful day out there and... DON'T PANIC!!
-
Good morning to you, too, with equal emphasis(!)
Yes, I read and liked Hitchhiker, but didn't hook up with any cults, or even a fan club, and I hadn't given it another thought until I happened to stumble onto you only slightly less than ingenious poem. (I just checked back, and yes again, you did say you had been smiling....and why would I panic?)
:o)

In the original publication, the words 'Don't Panic!' appeared in large letters across the cover... which is one of the reasons they attribute to such large sales when the book was released... another fun quote from the book for you:
"There are few things in the universe worse than bad poetry."
LOL! creatures die in the book when a really bad acrostic is read!! ;) :)
-
Thanks, I'll make it a priority to remember that. (Not the creatures dying as the punishment for writing a bad acrostic, but I should, come to think of it - I meant the heads-up about writing bad poetry, acrostics and all.)

I think this is a good entry for the Meaning of Life contest.
Your Acrostic poem spells out 42, the answer to the question.
Well done and good luck to you with the contest.

I'm very glad that I read this. Thank goodness you provided notes. I'm part of that 96.3% of the world who has not read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I guess you realize, of course, that I had no idea what this poem was about.
I know what an important book it is, and I've actually intended to read it. I don't like to be out of the cultural loop. That's why I'm glad you wrote this. We 96.3% may not understand the book, but at least we can appreciate the humor of forty-two.

Thank you for this wonderful review - I am thoroughly enjoying all the responses from the 96.3% on this one... well worth the entry!! Love that you're actually admitting to not knowing AND wanting to look into it.... the funniest ones are those from folks who really don't know but try to twist their words to compliment the poem without knowing what it's about (don't even think they read the author notes - lol!!). You have a great Wednesday and a safe upcoming trip!

I started to say in the review that I was tempted to read the book when my son was a teenager. He was into that kind of thing. I should have known that the writer of this poem would know a lot about teenage boys.
