This is a lovely free verse that speaks of something so true. Events and circumstances move us. The scene is awesome. Best of luck in the contest with this nice entry. Marilyn

What an interesting, and clever, and really pretty profound, way of looking at things. I also like the refrain you've used, which lends the free verse some more form and shape

Hi Sally. Thank you. I am unsure of myself when I write Free Verse. I hope to learn more in the upcoming FS class on FV. I am glad you liked it.

This meets the contest requirements beautifully as you deliver a well penned Free Verse filled with a plethora of poetic devices to delight and uplift the reader. The content is wonderfully elevating as the ocean has always inspired an overwhelming feeling of serenity. The use of a closing couplet to summarize the moment is a brilliant move as it so completes the image and brings a subtle closure to the overall tone of lingering peace. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

Hello MA. I really was encouraged by your review. I do not write much FV because I am unsure of myself. I hope to learn more when I take the upcoming FV class that FS will give in January. Thanks so much.

I was much the same way when it came to Free Verse. Michael Cahill pushed me hard to keep practicing. You really have it, Melissa, and simply need to keep refining it. I'm rooting for you!

This is a winner in my book, Melissa. I am always so impressed with the depth of your writing talent. This one sends me thinking. Perhaps it is only people that we can move and change.
Thanks again for sharing your talents.

Great free verse that reminds how moving moments touched us in positive ways. God help us to remember those positive memories much more than the negative ones. Thanks for sharing! Bill

-Very nice image, Melissa.
-I like your poem very much,
and all of the thought and
observation you put into it.
-I like how you encourage us
to think about a particular
place or piece of music, and
then show us how these
memories stay a part of us,
and may have even changed us.
-A good conclusion, too, and
a good entry; good luck in the contest.

Hi Pam... thank you for your great comments. I appreciate your good wishes. I am going to take the class that Pantygynt is offering on Free Verse (in January) and will hopefully write better poetry. I hardly every write FV because I feel unsure of myself. Thanks again.

You are very welcome, Melissa. I don't write much Free Verse. I guess I am partial to syllables:) You seem to enjoy the classes. It is a nice feature on the site.
Comment from Pantygynt
This is an interesting free verse poem reflecting on natural scenery. I wonder if a smaller font would have been a better choice so that the line breaks occur where you as the poet intended and not merely because you had run out of space.
Layout can play a major part in free verse.

Thank you!! I was just telling Pam (respa) that I plan to take your FV course in January so that I can learn to write it and stop feeling so unsure of myself. I hardly ever write that form because when I do, it comes across as a story, not FV. Hopefully, I will learn more about this form then. :). I will double check the layout.
