A "SALUTE," Co-author!
If I could, I'd take you to dinner, buy the finest wine, then we'd dine, and dance. Afterwards, while listening to the band, I'd hold your hand and I'd say to you: "Yesterday, I thanked God for sending you down to help me with my writing!" He replied: "I didn't send her, she took one look at your last poem, then ran away from home." Are you listening? Quite an "Astonishing Chapter" to our book "Love Long Distance." It is an honor having an "Awesome writer," such as yourself as my Co-author. Shee! Did you hear that train a 'coming? A 2nd SALUTE!"
Respectfully with Admiration and a Trainload of Love,
Bill

Thank you, Co-Author, for the awesome remarks and six star rating! HURRAH! A "SALUTE!" back atcha! In my eyes, you are "The Man", now it's dinner, wine and strike up the band. After we eat, please take my hand. We'll dance all night, and, "you betcha", I won't let'cha out of my sight! (so don't go lookin' at them other women wearing those short skirts!) Now, don't you know that God told me, that it was YOU he sent so that WE would co-author this romantic LOVE STORY! The HONOR is all mine, Bill! You are an AMAZING writer, and God knew I needed you because I still have a lot to learn. Thank you for all you do, and for putting up with me. God Bless, big hugs and all the rest!

Cathy

I am just beginning this wonderful story of love. I wanted to start from beginning, and will read a few chapters each weekend until I am caught up. This word is beautiful and captives the reader. I grew up in the days described here. I was about 7 years old at the time of this story. I also went into service at 18 and can so relate to the military experience shared throughout the tale. Thank you this beautiful and true to life walk down memory lane!! Yeah, Beatles!!!!! xoxo

Sometimes only the letters can melt the distance apart. Life stays still and becomes animated just through the eyes of the other person that is far away. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the next chapter.

Before I forget...lease correct this one spelling issue: It should be "Cassius" (Marcellus Clay Jr)---such an easy edit! The story is enchantingly real and readable...almost like two real lovers were corresponding (imagine that!)--I am of that age so all of the things you write about from the great boxing match to the horrible war to the transistor radios ring true and take away the years that have flown...You two are doing a knock-down great job and I will make a point to go back and catch up on chapters one and two! Ah, sweet love...seems to make the muse happy!---Karenina

You certainly have a very good handle on the current events in 1964. Did you research them or do you remember them? The only question I have is about the war? The first real large scale deployment of troops to Vietnam didnt occur until 1965. I don't know if you want to fiddle withit or not.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read and review Chapter 3 of Love Long Distance. Awesome comments! Yes, we did research the current events you mentioned. We researched the war timeline and events too!
Timeline of U.S Involvement in Vietnam conflict. 1956: France exits Vietnam. The US Military Assistance Advisor Group (MAAG) assumes full responsibility for training South Vietnamese forces. 1959: First two Americans are killed during a Viet Minh guerilla strike at Bien Hoa. 1961: President Kennedy sends 100 Special Forces troops to South Vietnam.
We were definitely involved in 1964 and there were troops over there.
Did you read Chapter 1? Also want to note that Bill volunteered to join the USAF before he got drafted.
We hope you continue to follow along. Chapter 4 is in the works and coming soon.
God Bless,
Bill & Cathy

What I liked about this was that in this exchanged letter format, you captured something of the army life and how it interferes with relationships, creating this rhythm of communication long distance. You wove in plenty of personality and emotion, with all these nice little touches of special moments, first kisses, hopes and dreams of living in the Smoky Mountains. You also threw in some memories like Buck Owens, Cassius Clay winning his first fight, The Beatles, things like that, to place us in the early sixties. The descriptions of the army training, shooting off those guns, casts an ominous shadow over it all, the sense of impending danger to come. I think its an interesting piece so far. estory
