A nice tribute, pilgrim. Of course, nearly all of your reviewers will name their favorite Wayne movie which you did not mention. In my case, The Cowboys will always be my favorite! Nice job. Good luck!

But he died in the Cowboys! You can't beat the Searchers. I appreciate you taking time to read and review my work.

Indeed he did die. I will search for the Searchers. Never saw it...

I never missed one of his films, he was an amazing actor and always won the day. I remember the day when we were told he had the Big C, as he called it. That and his ultimate death, were my saddest days up to then. It was nice to read your poem, telling of life and the films he stared in. They don't make men like that anymore. Good luck in the contest! :) Sandra xx

Well I don't know enough about poetry to judge your meters or rhyme. But I do know what I enjoy and I enjoyed this!
My favorite lines:
His fans would've thrown a fit,
If he hadn't won the Oscar for True Grit,
We weren't quite ready yet,
When he rode off into that western sunset.
I probably watched True Grit one hundred times as a kid. Lol.
It was interesting to learn that John Wayne wasn't an overnight movie star. A good reminder that it's the ones who keep trying and don't give up when others do, who find the greatest success.
Thanks for the great poem.

This is a fitting poetic tribute to the acting career of the Duke, formatted in well-rhymed quatrains. My favorite John Wayne movie is Rio Bravo.
Great job!

Oh, pshaw on meter and perfect rhyme...we're talking John Wayne here! You cannot go wrong in any way making HIM the theme of a western themed poem. He was the epitome of "the wild west"///and, like you, I only wish he wasn't struck down with cancer.---Karenina

I enjoyed this, you have put together a creative poem that holds a great deal of old western history, you tell your story well and this is colorful and fun, I enjoy how you tell of the old Duke and the events of his life and movies, your rhyme as you have already said is a bit off and can come and go but with a little tweeking you could adjust that, you share a wondeful part of history in a very creative manor, nice job and thank you for sharing,Mancub

I love it! You tell a good story throughout the poem your rhyming was fine for me. I know you used sound alike rhymes but that is ok too.

This is a well done ode to John Wayne and all his movies. I like how you found rhymes for all the titles. You reminded my of movies I should try to watch again.
Good luck and keep writing

In my opinion, you did just fine - I enjoyed the read, especially having met the man many years ago, shopping in Newport Beach - he was a true gentleman of the highest order, and more handsome in person than on screen - truly a star off the screen as well. Thank you for sharing this fun write and very fond memory. Your rhyming proved just right with this one. Best of luck in the contest...

You are very welcome indeed, and yes, you did miss someone very special, but he's at rest now and available to us all on the screen...Eve
