What a nice poem and congratulations for winning the contest. I like how you've enlivened everything with color and sound. Image is perfect. The last two stanza are especially sensational:
"The yellow aspens are trombones,
red sassafras the standing bass
while beech and birch are saxophones.
There's gusto in these leaves!
Look at these trees! They really wail!
What jumping jive these cats all play
This jam is wild, way off the scale.
There's color in these leaves!"
This poem is a WOW! Marilyn

Hello Rod
Congratulations on the win!
Well deserved as you've melded jazz with the play of autumn leaves
sound with color.
Excellent imagery of the passion, rhythm and gusto of the leaves.
Great choice of art works embodies all three
Well done

In my opinion, yes, I can hear the colors, bold, bright and "all that Jazz" - an amazing and articulate write in its clever tribute to the autumn season - striking in its imaginative and beautiful delivery, presented in smooth and casual rhyme and gorgeous imagery...

I can definitely hear the music! What a great idea, making the colors of the leaves come alive with the wild raucous music of jazz. Your descriptive words brought those leaves to life. Best of luck in the contest.

Oh, I enjoyed this so much. It is so expertly and beautifully crafted. I love the New Orleans jazz motif. That's what makes the poem for me. But it's not just that. It's your rhythms, your lovely colors. your rhymes. It's got it all. Hope you win lots of play money.

Hi Karenina. I am delighted you could feel the music of the leaves in our bones as you read ?Autumn Jazz.? I did not invent the Rainbow form, but have not seen it often on this site. Do give it a try.

It is a form that intrigues and I will give it a go when the muse chooses to cooperate.... Thanks!
