Hi Carol, I have seen a few tanka poems being around of late. As I love Japanese poetry and culture, I'm obviously intrigued. It's a long time since I've written a tanka myself. I also like that you're not sticking to traditional format. Yeah, the third line, the pivot,is the difficult one. You've managed really well. I liked it. I may have a go one of these days. You should, I couldn't sleep last night and wrote two of them. It was fun and I much prefer not having to stick to the traditional syllable counts. Thanks Ulla :))

I so agree, when I write haikuI often don't stick to the traditional Western way. I'll have a go at a tanka soon. A hug.:)

This modified tanka works for me because I can CLEARLY SEE that rapid river. This is because you created one swift-moving image with words and the poetic device of enjambment. Rod

I need to figure out the name of that river, it was gorgeous. Thank you for this review, I'm a bit worried about the "tanka purists" lol. I appreciate your review very much :))
