what a juggling act you accomplished in this chapter. It's so easy to want the pie-in-the-sky quick-fix for a kid with such an emotionally devastating past. It's hard to face tough love. Yet the man DID care enough to spend time, to listen, to treat him like a man.
You have a riveting manner of creating an emotional attachment to your story line and its characters.
So, what's next?

Excellent chapter. I must have missed a chapter somehow. Last I read was of his first strapping by Tubbo. When did he leave again? Oh, well. More importantly is why did he return. He knew he'd be whipped again. I was raised by an abusive father, and believe me, given the chance I'd have headed out and kept going.

I returned back to Hermitage Hall because, although what Dusty told me at McDonald's was not what I wanted to hear, it made sense to me at the time.

I am so moved by your story. Oh, if only I had been in a place to have someone sit me down and talk openly with me as a rebellious teen, the way Dusty talked with you, maybe, just maybe things would have been different. You were being watched over it seems all this time by God, the one who wanted the best for you. I admire your courage to return to Heritage Hall. Patricia

A very well-written chapter. I think you met your match. Dusty seems to even be able to read your mind and can see right through you. He will not let you get away with any hidden plans without hurting he will lead you in the right direction.

Interesting story mate. Keep em coming. I love true stories. I am also thankful as much of a struggle as it was my Mum looked after my brother and me when my Dad left us when I was 8. Now some spags. A couple (of)months down the road
compared to exi[s]ting that McDonald's,

Doesn't having a parent who cares about your wellbeing make all the difference in the world?

Sure does mate. My Dad and Mum were reunited when I was in my thirties, but he never really changed. He was of no use to me so many years later.

Nice well disguised chapter hook in leaving Dusty at the McDonald's after telling us that he became your Dad. I'm caught up now on the first nine chapters, so I'm looking forward to each of the following segments.

OM goodness. Wow and I too want to know how you responded to him when no one else could get through? Why did you listen to him? Why did you go back? Sorry, just curious. Very well written and no mistakes noted
