The Bible, in the book of Job, suggests we start over after tragedy and rebuilt our lives. One wonders what kind of man Job was to recover from the loss of his seven firstborn. An excellent account of one of those terrible things that fall into every life sooner or later.

Hi Patty, this is a touching and heartfelt piece. I cannot imagine the pain and loss your family has experienced. It's hard to lose a family member, but especially hard when they are so young. My heart breaks for your brother. I know he must need someone to blame. I've always felt getting to go to heaven is a reward, and not a punishment. I've always wondered if we look at it the wrong way. We always think a person is missing out on life. But, maybe not, if you go to a better one.

Hi Mel; thank you so much for the lovely and heartfelt review. I'm with you on the notion of going to Heaven rather than living a longer life here - I know we miss our loved ones, but some times, they have more important work to do elsewhere,

ps; thank you for the lovely sixth star.

I like the way the real life story is written, well organized, great content and dialogue flow and very emotional. It is never the same when one losses their beloved ones. Pray the hole heals all in due time.

Thank you for sharing; this is a tragic story. The death of a child is a parent's worst nightmare. One cannot imagine losing a child. But when it happens we are faced with two choices, to accept and move forward or get stuck in a world of denial and bitterness. One can only hope the parent treasures the memories of the child they hold dear.

Hi Jill; thank you so much for your thoughtful review of this piece. It was probably the worst thing that happened to any of us, and I still find myself asking, 'Why?' even though I know there isn't any answer,

Good afternoon, Patty
It feels somewhat odd giving a six for something so tragic and devastating. I know of two couples who lost one of their children...and the memories still haunt them.
Take care and stay safe,
Ray

Hi Ray; thank you for your kind review. Yes, this is a difficult memory to deal with, but as I wrote the story as relayed to me by my brother so long ago, I was able to work through some of the grief.
Your generous rating made me smile,

The death of a child would be the hardest thing to bare. I very nearly lost my son when he was five. I sat by his hospital bed for twelve agonising weeks while he slipped so far away. Today he is fifty and I thank God. Sincerely Anne

I'm so sorry to hear that you went through a near-death experience with a child. I'm glad he is doing well,

So am I. Never do I wish that dreadful vigil on any parent, Sincerely Anne

How sad! I can see how that would break John, especially if he already had a problem. I'm told there's nothing worse than the loss of a child and I can believe it. I'm sure the entire family misses him terribly.

Comment from Poetic Friend
Patty,
This story left me in tears and pulls strongly at my heartstrings.
My condolence on the loss. I could only imagine the pain (and perhaps regret) the parents have endured.
Personally, I don't think schools should allow ski trips for children.
Oftentimes, couples divorce after a death of a child. You would think the tragedy would bring them closer, but apparently not.
Well done on telling the story! Your writing style keeps the reader engaged.

thank you so much for reading and reviewing this piece. I'm so sorry the story made you cry, but then I guess it means I've done my job and conveyed the sadness of the story.
I appreciate your kind words of encouragement - the shining sixth star is just icing on the cake,

Yes, you have done your job and then some. I have been meaning to read more of your work, but life's demands have lured me away from the site. Hopefully, I would be more active in mid to late July.

thank you. I hope you will enjoy more of my pieces when you have more time - life gets so busy in the summer!

This is a very well written but very sad story you have penned. You used very good descriptive wording and very good imagery. It made me sad to read it. We don't know why some people are taken so young or at all, but God is in control and has that master plan. Maybe one day we will understand it better! Blessings, Teri
