I confess I chuckled when I read this, because I am sure we all know some-one like this. Gossiping is something I try very hard to Not do.
Well written, and thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ann, not sure we met before. You are dead right GOSSIP, for sure. Brings to mind another form of Gossip...sharing Prayer requests, Oh me! Will try and check your stuff out. Always nice meeting new members on FS.

It is funny how someone will tell something, and tell you to not tell anyone else, and yet they tell others themselves. Well I guess that's part of being human.

Yeah for sure bro.As another new FS friend said above plain old Gossip. I thought of another form of Gossip this morning too...sharing prayer requests! Oh me!

Isn't it odd how many times we are told something like that and wonder exactly what you have written. I am not a gossip and at times have asked not to be told something that cannot be shared if given the opportunity to make a choice. Not many times for that. Great job on this.

Thanks Sis, and being a Sis in the Lord can share with you, our old pastor's wife used to share Prayer requests at a lady's bible study we held here at our home, and I quite often felt like it was kind of Gossip in some ways. I have several e-mail lists; one is a "Christians" one where I send good stuff around for reading and prayer requests. BUT n o name in the prayer requests - God knows who they are! Are you on Facebook? Quite a few FS'ers including Bros and Sisters are friends on there. Not everyone's cup of tea I know. I got off for 18 months myself, long story.

These sorts of goings on are precisely the reason I stay away from Facebook for the most part, Geoff. Unless I am on my author's page on Facey, I am rarely, if ever, on it at all.
Gossip is the devil's work.

I once knew a woman who did this constantly. I finally figured out that what she was doing was assuring that she got to be the first to tell everyone the story, rather that actually having it kept secret. No errors in your short story.

Thanks, Sis plain old Gossip for sure. No longer at our church. The pastor's wife used to share "Prayer requests" at a ladies bible study we had here and I sometimes felt like even sharing the prayer requests was kind of Gossip too.

Ah ha, You rang in another bad church memory for me. There was a woman named Wilma that attended church where I did. She did the prayer request gossip all the time. It was truly gossip and always half untrue. She did it for revenge sometimes. I remember once when she announced in Wednesday night prayer meeting, "I'm asking that all of you please prat for Sis Polly and Bro Ken. They are having serious marriage troubles right now. Please, especially pray for Polly, that God will open her eyes to see how she's destroying their family."
Polly and ken were fine but she had a grudge going for Polly. That prayer request caused gossip to spread suggesting Polly was involved an affair.
When they got angry at her, she shrugged and said, " I never said anything like that." This woman did this all the time and caused so many people to quit, I left too.

Oh me the damage we do in churches. People never gossiped to us as they knew we had a policy of going right back to the Pastor. And I know he NEVER shared stuff with his wife, even when we would have been happy for him to do so, ho hum. We love the new pastor and his wife. So glad the old mob are finally selling up and moving down near their daughter. Can feel another story coming on! Ha!

It does make one wonder. I have had the same type of thing happen to me. I don't know that person well enough to them share something private with me. Oh well, I did enjoy reading this short essay.

Hello Geoff,
Well I guess if you can't remember what was said in confidence than you can't betray the trust. However, for entertainment value as you also didn't mention her name you could have made up a juicy fictional tale to share with us, she robbed a bank, buried her cheating husband in the backyard or she talks to spirits. Ok mate, said my piece, we'll get a fictional story out of you one day!

I do have some more stuff in Preview still. As I said to barbara Wilkey...another favourite writer...I can always tell there might be another great chapter to read from you guys when you come through to review me.

This is a good short story that touches on the nature of how humans behave. How often do they hear a story, repeat it in such a way that at the end of the telephone line we don't recognize the original story. Patricia.

Memories are a dime a dozen. Seldom are they locked firmly in our minds. This is very well written with an interesting flow of words, making for a very good read.
