ONe of my favorite poets. He had me with all his writings.
Mystical, dark, yet so compelling.
He had the way with the macabre and a weaving tale.
Very special acrostic

Wow! I didn't notice upon the first reading the this one was acrostic - which means you did a terrific job! Smooth as butter! And that incredible imagery - fresh word couplings! I wish I had a six left! :(
My favorites:
"Emotions plummet in the depths,
Lost love deflowered by regrets."
I LOVE this poem!

Thanks, Jyoti! I told you that acrostics are my favorite! :) I was channeling Poe on that one. I saw his quote and it had to be done. Yes, poetry IS necessary! I will take a virtual six from you any day of the week. I appreciate your enthusiastic comments.

Well written and I love the rhyme. The poem wonderfully captures Poe's expression in the picture. I love the last verse. Have a great day and God bless.

Fantastic! I forgot what an acrostic was, and I read through your poem without realizing that it spelled out "To Elevate the Soul" - haha, well it is April Fools day, I can be foolish sometimes :)
I often don't care for acrostics as they can seem forced, or turn out like a strange list - but yours is none of that. It is wonderful and fascinating - I was entranced!
Well done,
Carol

Thank you, Carol. Acrostics are one of my favorite forms of poetry. I find them to be a special challenge to flow smooth, like you stated, so they don't get that choppy feel when you read them. I am so happy you enjoyed mine. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review.

Hi,
Another fantastic piece of poetry here. This time with the acrostic. I am also familiar with Poe's 'Elizabeth'.
You piece is a superb piece of writing too. Great emotions permeate the piece with each well chosen word to enhance that tone and atmosphere.
Great stuff

Yep, I couldn't hold out to posting a poem a day! Good luck to you. I am enjoying the reading though, especially if this is going to be the standard.

I'll do my best to hold that bar up high! :)

A very well written poem on Edgar Allan Poe the poet and his acrostic poem Elizabeth. Very interesting history about the famous poet.

Some say he was mad, some say he was brilliant. I've always loved his work.
Comment from Pantygynt
Well, er, actually I prefer yours to Poe's. Tell it not in Gath! Or anyway in the US of A, because I know this is heresy of the worst possible kind. But I do. Also yours is spelled correctly. The name of Socrates' wife was Xantippe, so Poe cheated, using a zeta when he have used a xi.

Hi Pantygynt,
He was an alcoholic and a drug addict, perhaps he couldn't spell? lol They say he misspelled on purpose, but perhaps history was being kind or trying to keep from sending him into a psychotic episode? Yep, add cheating to his list of misdemeanors.
I'm over the moon that you prefer mine to Poe's. I will go to great lengths to not sacrifice the integrity of my acrostics, they are my favorites. :)
Thanks so much!

Well we can't reserve the moral high ground Coleridge indulged in all sorts of nast substances, according to the guy from Porlock. But he managed to spell Xanadu correctly.
-
And he found Paradise instead of losing it ;)
-
What about Milton? Idon't think he was on the whacky baccy but he managed both to lose Paradise and regain it. Clever guy - must miserable looking.
-
Perhaps he was just loopy like me, from lack of sleep! lol No foreign substances necessary for that ;)

Oh wow! I am so pleased I came across your poem. I have loved Edgar Allen Poet since I was young. Your poem is a fine poem to the man. To use one of his own quotes as an acrostic and then adorn it with such poetic verse is a fine accomplishment and can only be given six stars. An extraordinary atmospheric feeling is produced from the first to last line. I love this. Great flow and memorable. So impressive x

Hi Helen!
I am so appreciative of your generous six star rating. Who better than Poe to pay homage to in National Poetry Writing Month? He's long been one of my favorites, too. Thank you for joining in my poetry celebration this month, I hope you'll stop by again soon.

I meant to say 'fine tribute to the man' I really didn't expect to come across something as great as this, I shall certainly look out for more of your writing x
-
Thank you, Helen :) I'm looking forward to seeing all the posts from the 18 poets who've taken on the NaPoWriMo challenge this month. (National Poetry Writing Month) I'm expecting to read some fantastic work!

Well mind, I think you have set a pretty high bar yourself, I shall watch with interest x
-
I do love a challenge lol :) I'm excited!

Great stuff. It should be fun. I tried NaNoWriMo last November and managed 38,000 words which really helped with a novel i'm working on. Good luck and may the muse be with you x
-
I did NaNo in November, too... and I hit just over 37,000 words... still needs editing, but it is in my portfolio all the same lol I need to put more effort in that.
-
The NaNo's are great for focussing your mind. Day one is always exciting. You've made a great start
