Fragile and easily drowned unless cast upon the shore. Your notes give a sombre second level of meaning, which I would not have picked up, but for them.

The themes are connected. Fragile, yes, but not overcome. I presume you might know the song that is connected to this story. If not, there's a link to it in my last profile post, because I was listening to it as I wrote this. Thanks for reviewing, Tony.

Arggh! When I really, really need a six...I have none. This is so nicely done, I love it -the symbolism mentioned in your notes, and that I imagine for myself - the wonderful perfection of a flower, that is knowledge, floating above oceans of ignorance...
AND I love that you are leaving the meaning for us readers to "fathom" :)
The title feels so appropriate to the poem too - it's really very thought-provoking, thinking of the great gift of knowledge. Bringing calm and a sense of peace is certainly part of true knowledge.
Nice work,
Carol

Thanks for the wonderful review, Carol. That you enjoyed it means more to me than a truckload of sixes - well, ok, maybe not a truckload, but certainly a bucket! ;-) Craig

REally beautifully done and very timely written.

reply by the author on 01-Apr-2016
    Not "what ocean"...

    What, "ocean" ?

You said "I didn't know that word", I thought maybe being from Texas, you meant ocean ;-)

OK, OK... I know, lame joke - I won't give up my day job. Whoops, too late!

This is a very deep (also, no pun intended) and poignantly penned antonym, Craig. Just a subtle hint of alliteration added to the mix here with "frangipani floating".

We all live on an island, surrounded by a sea of ignorance, my friend.

Well done, and best of luck in the judging...

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

This is a profound statement of genius truth, merged well as tribute to those fallen to a most devastating kind of ignorance. Yet even the most knowledgeable person in the world can still be tied to this statement as fathoming the depths of anything is elusive to the vastness of what is, there always seems to be more.

And the other aspects of this poem to me, is how beautiful knowledge can be, and how ignorance just wins by hands-down abundance. Where it just feels impossible to sop up with a mop. You tied these two opposites together with seamless flow of logic, I like the added alliteration of fragnipani floating.

Not only does the fragnipani have relevance to a particular moment in time, it is a fragile beauty easily swallowed by a cold overwhelming force of nature. Yet it floats too. In it's own defiant way.

The last two sentences you've written there are the key to it all, Turtle.

Thanks for the wonderful review and the six star rating; but thanks especially for understanding the various things I was trying to express.

If you get the chance, you might want to check out a clip I put on my profile today. It's the song I was listening to as I wrote this. The song is far more eloquent than the poem :)

This is beautifully written - an extremely powerful image and makes me sad.. I just so much want to believe it's not true... despite of the overwhelming evidence... Exquisite writing!

Oh I love it, Craig! Where did you find that frangipani? Hmmm?

A lovely transition between your antonyms and I wish you all the best in the contest. :))

    Hi Gloria!

It was a bit of a photoshop job, the flower and the water were two different pics :)

Thanks for the lovely review, much appreciated!

This is a fine entry for the contest
Two solid antonym words in knowledge/ignorance
Ignorance is large, as in ocean
and knowledge fragile, as in frangipani
Excellent picture to match poem
Well done
Good luck in the contest

Thank you, rspoet for the lovely review. I made the picture myself from a couple I found, as I couldn't find a public one I was keen on. Your interpretation is spot on, thanks very much!

Beautifully stated. and illustrated. Never knew what a fangipani was until today. Your words did create an interesting idea. Thank you for writing. This should be a good entry.
