Thia is very well written. It hit on my biggest anxiety that I have right now. I'm 40 and my dad is 77. I connected well to the story.

Thank you, Candy. You may be so fortunate as to have your dad with you well into his 90's. Hold that thought. I very much appreciate your review and excellent rating.

This is so deserving of a six, that I wish I had one to give to such a beautiful, very interesting eulogy of such a dear dad which I know you truly miss, and who taught you so much determination and compassion while he was alive and know it has stayed with you today. Yes, I, too had a a parent pass, my mom in 1/1996 and then dad followed her in 5/1997. I regret not standing up and speaking about them at their funerals. Though I was a different person then today. In so many ways. And we are flooded with so much sorrow at the time of their passing, and think your dad will be very proud of you, Mary, the way that you shared this latest story about him to us here.

God Bless...Caressa_08

Caressa, thank you so much for your beautiful review and rating. I very much appreciate you committing to a longer read. As more of a story writer, I find that the most challenging part of FanStory. Poems are more readily reviewed than stories, and I understand it, it's a time thing. So thank you. Virtual 6's are just as good as thought intended to me. Have a wonderful day!

Really nice work on this piece. The 'I should have said' will always loom overhead, but I think you summed it up nicely with I know he knows. Normally, I would advise against the repetition, bu in this case, it worked very strongly.

I thought your writing was nice and clean.

Take care,
Russell

Thank you so much, Russell, for your RR&R, especially on a longer read. I understand was you are saying about the repeat, and I tend to do that in my writing, so I take that suggestion with complete awareness for future work. Thank you. Have a great afternoon.

Dear Mary,

A powerful tribute to your dad. It brought tears to my eyes. If only we could tell someone who is gone how much we loved them but it is not possible. I think of my son everyday and regret what I didn't do.

Warm regards,

Winslow

Thank you, Winslow, for your RR&R. I appreciated reading your comments and can feel your pain. You did a wonderful thing in taking care of your son's dog following his death, and gave that little guy many good years and good times. Like my dad, I think your son knows too, of your unspoken love. Thank you.

Hi, Mary

= Lovely memories of your father.
= It is hard no matter how long they've been gone. Lost mine 18 years ago on St. Patrick's Day. Miss hims as much now as then.
= We always wish we could have--would have done more. In the end, we must treasure what was, and know there will come the time we'll see them again.
= This is beautifully written. Nice memories Thanks for sharing them.

Hello Mary,

You are a lucky girl indeed, to have known a father like that, and to be able to bring his memory to life with the skill and finesse of your prose. He was quite a man. You are quite a girl. Thanks for sharing this.

I know your father is proud.

Write on,
Lana

First, let me offer my sincere condolences - you were a lucky woman to have had such a wonderful father all those years.

Next, "I know he knows." That conclusion stopped my sobbing, which started several paragraphs earlier.

Now for the edits needed:

1) "I should have written about the father who years later laughed..." - this whole paragraph is one long (run-on) sentence. Judging from the rest of your amazing story, I am not going to bother suggesting how to revise it - you OBVIOUSLY know what to do.
2) "...very pregnant self arrived (intact)..." - one word

One of the best I've read on this site - ever. Had I a *&%# six, I'd slap it on here in a hurry! Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so very much, Dawn, for your RR&R. I am happy to take your *&%# 6 too! I'll take a 6 any way I can get one ;)

I loved reading your comments, made my day. Thank you very much for the catch on intact. It has been corrected. I'm always amazed at what gets by me after untold edits. I have also restructure the sentence with the long run.

I'm still giddy over your last remark! I may have to frame this one :)

    Have an awesome weekend!

"I should have's..." can keep a person in perpetual turmoil for years. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for an interesting read.

This is beautiful heart warming story that I wanted to keep reading. So many wonderful memories of this great man and the love he had for his family. You did a wonderful job of telling the story.

This beautifully written emotional story deserves a well earned Six. You brought tears to my eyes. The story of your beloved father, from the joys of first love, to his sad death, is a wonderful tribute to a man you loved.
It's often the case, that as we grow older, we begin to realise how much how parents did for us, and regret not ever having had the time to thank them.
Good luck in the contest, Mary ... regards, Annette

Oh my goodness, thank you so very much especially for your kind assessment of this work. And my first six for it too :) You are absolutely correct about the expression of our gratitude. I suppose it's like sending flowers to the funeral home following a death rather than during a life. I very much appreciate your review. To clarify, the contest has passed, it was one of the first I entered when joining the site, and I did not so much as place. Have a blessed weekend.

Such a shame that you didn't place ... better luck next time
