This carries a good message about how cutting down trees also cuts down on our oxygen. The satori is appropriate: "breathtaking ignorance." Good luck to you, Jeanie Mercer

These few words say a lot. Deforestation doesn't only take away natural beauty it also takes away the tree's ability to naturally keep the air clean. So with each tree chopped we lose some fresh air to breathe.
Hope you did well in the contest.

Well written poem that clearly demonstrates that to cut down trees, that provide oxygen for people to breath, is rather ignorant.
Uses terms such as "won't help you breath anymore" to better illustrate this theme.
However, the last line is the clincher.
Should also be a good contest entry.

"haiku (cut down trees)", is a well-written and thought-provoking piece. Short, succinct and very much to the point, This poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review.

Deforestation is taking place at an alarming rate all over the globe. Trees do far more for our Earth's eco system than help produce life-giving oxygen. Trees planted on your own property can add value to your home, help cool your home and neighborhood, break the cold winds to lower your heating costs, and provide food for wildlife.
One acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide and puts out four tons of oxygen. This is enough to meet the annual needs of 18 people, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The planting of trees means improved water quality, resulting in less runoff and erosion. This allows more recharging of the ground water supply. Wooded areas help prevent the transport of sediment and chemicals into streams.
There are many more benefits trees provide which I could note but won't, simply for time's sake.
Well done.
Good luck in your contest.

Hi Mystery author, this is a really good entry for this particular competition, a wonderful poem stating the damage done to our climate by the clearance of rain forests, I wish you the very best of luck in the contest my friend.

Of course this has been an issue for years, particularly with the shrinking of the Amazon rainforest. Wherever there is potential profit, some unscrupulous men will find a way to get it - at any cost, and not necessary with 'ignorance'.
Your 3 lines make this point with clever wordplay.
Good luck and best wishes, Ray

This is an outstanding entry for this contest, from the amazingly impacting artwork, to the clear message of your haiku. The statement:cut down trees won't help you breathe anymore, reminds us of what we all know about deforestation. The darkly witty 'breathtaking ignorance' completes the idea with punch. Best of luck.

Appropriate photo for this haiku. Trees truly are the lungs replenishing the air we breath. I hate to cut down even one tree on my land. Companies that build tracts of housing, just raze all these old trees to build. I would think that leaving a few strands of trees would make the houses much more valuable, cheers judester
