you forgot the WHO, which was another camp altogether. . .
I remember clearly the day John Lennon was murdered. . I had flown to a job interview with Price Waterhouse. The news was announced while I was in-flight. My wife told me when I called he and told her thee plane had landed. School for me ended shortly after that. The dreams they gave me havce never died.

I do remember this wonderful person who slayed me with his words when I was a young pup. I'm glad to have read this because it would have passed me by and I would have not given pause and purpose to his calling.

Living here in Mazatlan, I seldom hear much about what is going on in the world. This is the fist time I heard of Peat Seeger's passing. I must say, your essay was deeply moving and brought back so many fond memories of my younger years. Beautifully written and as I said, deeply moving.
I am finally back and doing fine. Linda is staying with me for a few days to make sure all is well and that I follow my doctor's advice...as if I would not!

I just glanced at my latest issue(April) of Sojourners Magazine . This was a tribute to Pete Seeger, by contributor Danny Duncan Collum (page 42) A stand-out caption of him as choir leader as that he didn't just sing to an audience, but got them to sing with him.
You bring an humble man to life.

He always seemed to me that he was a man who just went about his business; someone who loved music to the core. Probably more memorable in his beliefs through music that almost every politician through their speeches.

I felt connected to Peter Seeger, too. I tramped around in those heady days of Great 60's Folk Scare. I saw him perform live dozens of times, and once performed with him on a very large (and crowded) stage. Woody, then Pete sowed musical seeds that are still fruitful.
Frankly, down here, Pete's death received more note and reverence than I would have expected. No complaint for me.
Madison Square Garden (no 's').
I'm not certain the Jacob's Ladder and Motherless Child were composed by Pete. He was a great one for adapting and adopting old spirituals and hymns--a noble cause in itself.

A whole new other side to you...were you a plucker or a strummer?

I started out finger-picking folk/blues, then switched to flat-picking when a joined a bluegrass band (with some jug-band stuff thrown in.

Would have had a blast with you...specially emptying the jug...for professional reasons, of course...in order to create the wind section of the orchestra...

I thought this was great. I remember hearing his music but was still a little to young to understand it all, just moving into my teens. His music and lyrics are beautiful. You not only pay tribute to him but your friend. Also, beautifully written and great to read.

I'm not so sure we understood all the meanings back them either. But enough people took on the music as a theme song that it became infused in our days and lives. Thanks so much for the very generous stars.

And it's really not a story or a character, but a testament to a man and musician who just recently died. Thanks

I realize that, but the story you tell about him makes the reader feel that they have a glimpse of who this person was. He comes alive in the story that shows that the character was real and not that you just told a story. Does that make sense? That is what I was trying to say..
