02/08/2014 Hello! Thank you for your consideration, appreciation, and participation (Leisure)! The Panama Canal was completed by The United States of America. As a leading United Nation, the great United States has "Heart", so much so that it is compared to the loving "Heart" (Characteristic) of a Grandma. God Bless America! - Jason Robert Van Pelt

Great America
The canal of Panama
Heart of a Grandma
This piece meets the criteria of the 5-7-5 poem as the syllable count is correct. Good end rhyming. Clear message that is short and simple.

I like the way you have an almost cryptic approach to the symbolic role that the US has played out in the world up to this day. I like the rhyme scheme, difficult to do in this poetry type. I'm not sure of the Panama Canal reference. The grandma analogy, is the kindly nature of the US toward the rest of the world! I'm an Australian with a daughter living in NY.And they have been kind to her, husband and grandchildren..Well done. Roy.

Great America
The canal of Panama
Heart of a Grandma.
All lines end in an 'a' which in itself is a challenge. The canal was a great engineering feat on behalf of the US. As to grandma rhyming with 'panama', I like it.

Your rhyming is very interesting and unique, especially for a 5-7-5. Greatness has to be worked at, as the Panama canal was. Wonderfully written. Les

Your poem fits the 5-7-5 format effectively but for me the three ideas seem rather disjointed. The way you have made the three lines rhyme is effective.
