This is such a sad and touching poem, Beth. Its poignant and tells of a soldiers failure to keep a promise due to being a combat fatality. This old world as we know it, as you said, is not meant to last, but God promises a brave new world for all those who serve him.

A heartbreaking story. Picture and words work in harmony as a tribute to our military. May this bring some comfort to others who have bit farewell.

Hi Beth, this is a sad quatrain entry. It is never easy to carry on when your loved one is taken away. They say time heals, but it takes forever to put the old life aside and tackle a new one. It is such a pity that war must end young lives and destroy young dreams. Well written. Best wishes for the contest. luv jada

Thank you so much Jada. It is sad an I usually try to write upbeat poem and stories. However the reality is there and we can't make it go away but always looking on the bright side. I appreciate you reading and commenting.

A heart-felt poem. There is a consistent rhyming scheme. You told your message well. Your build-up leading to the last stanza is great. A good message.

Very beautiful & haunting poem that conveys the sadness, as well as a message of hopefulness. Being mostly from the point of view of the soldier that's died, this poem brings a bittersweet message from the grave that's believable & inspiring, but in between the lines, we can imagine how hard it would be to hear this message & to let go of her grief. Great job! Good luck!

A very sad poem written with a deep passion for the women who have lost their loved ones through war. It does not bear thinking about the heartache that a widow goes through on getting this horrific news. This is seen in the image, you did a wonderful job in writing a great quatrain poem that told the sad story in a most poetic way. Well done Mary
He can't be a part of the present
and she must not live in the past.
The final farewell isn't easy
but nothing on earth's meant to last.

This is the deepest tribute poem I have ever read. Your heart wrote this poem, so fluently it goes, the words will reach her and definitely its sad, but she can start a life. Terry
