CONGRATULATIONS!! Great job with this. I recall my mother-in-law saying cowboys are fun to chase but not to catch: they think 8 seconds is long ride, they just hang around til the bell rings, they think if they land on their feet, they did a good job and, shocking to me that she SAID, the only big thing they have is their belt buckle... nonetheless, there is a cowboy that can still bring a smile to my heart.

No spag, great form, fine job. :) Carrie

This poem roped me in from the first line. Every image as the story progresses is funnier, more interesting, and continues with the western theme in a really authentic way. I can just see the tumbleweeds, hear the raucous noise of the honky-tonks and the sweet voice of a rough and tough cowboy with a roving spirit. You've certainly got a winner here.

Wow! Thanks for the wonderful review and the precious SIX! You made my weekend with your kindness. What fabulous compliments. I'm so glad that you like Schoolmarm. I guess experience shows. This East Texas Pinecone got her heart broken, but she had big fun in the process.
Thanks again, and have a wonderful Sunday.

Hi, Vista Kay. You are one of a kind, for sure. Your down to earth language and point of view is fantastic. I'm a kind of schoolmarm type - mousy, shy, etc. etc. But one a man who was the roving kind took me for a spin. So I truly identify with your poem, even though I'm not from Texas, but Miami which is full of cowboys of a different kind. Liilia

Great job with this. Rhymes are excellent. It has quite a feel of being out west, and the way you wrote it is incredible.

Midst cow town bars and honkytonks, I did things twice I shouldn't do once.
In this country of cow manure, we undertook a whirlwind tour. - the wording is amazing!

I love the poem. Every once in while we have to try something that is not in our nature. School marm means a woman of high virtue. You threw this virtue away on a wild cowboy. You never regretted a bit and you shouldn't Great work.

Thank you for the generous review and the equally generous stars. Absolutely no regrets here, just lots of good memories and tales of fun days in the Wild West. I'm so happy that you "got" the poem!

This poem is wonderful. I laughed when I read it. I loved the rhyming lines. You didn't have to tell me what out of the chute meant, since I am from Oklahoma. I was laughing hard, then stopped and said 'wait I really talk that way.' Loved it. Best of luck in the contest, Shirley

    Hi Shirley,
I got such a kick out of your review! I am so glad that you "got" Valentine and enjoyed it so much, and I'm grateful for the stars. Well, I had to explain the lingo as a "just in case." My Dad rode the circuit, so I talk that way, too--sometimes. It's a sort of second language. Sounds like it may be your first! lol
    Thanks again.

When I lived in Charleston SC and St. Marys Ga. my patients would ask me if I was from Texas. I would act outraged and say. "Lord no, I am from Oklahoma!" :)

Oh! So you are the Oklahoman! We did more than one rodeo tour of your country with my dad, Shirley, and we had such great times there. I haven't blown your way in about a decade, but my last visit was to Tulsa, which was so much like Fort Worth then that they were interchangeable.
You're the real deal, and it means so much to me that you like Valentine! The best to you and your family--in Texas and Oklahoma.
    Thanks again for the kudos.

Dear Vista, I am about as real as you can get. :) I loved your entry. As a child, the NRA had the final in Oklahoma City and not in Las Vagas. Have a great day, Shirley

This was a fantastically metered and perfectly rhyming poem. I especially liked the cowboy references and comparisons. For me, that's what made it so unique and special.
Bravo!

This is an excellently-written poem that expertly avoids the forbidden words as listed. Fun to read and a good story within this poem too. Thanks for sharing and best wishes for the contest :) Lise
