ou don't have to worry about Charlie making fun of you legs in that picture. They don't show, but the scenery is better. Grandma sound like my wife. You've spun us a delightful yarn here, b. Where do I find one of 'em poems you don't write very often

Thank you for reading and your kind words. There are several poems in my library. Just bear in mind, I don't claim to be a poet! Bill

I loved your post. Keep them coming. I happen to be deathly afraid of snakes myself.
Old Virge would like to have him as a pet. kingsnakes are smart. (capital 'k' on kingsnakes)
Virge, you say that God's got a plan for all critters, but rats and mice are pretty worthless aren't they?" (comma after worthless)

Bill,
The story is interesting and engaging with plenty of suspense. The snake brings back memories of my days on the farm. I have known of farmers to put golf balls in the hens' nests. A king snake, we called them chicken snakes, will swallow the ball and unfortunately, they die a slow cruel death. My house has a partial basement and a crawl space. King snakes go there to shed their skin. I will not let the exterminators kill them. We do not have a mouse problem nor poisonous snakes.
The dialogue is outstanding, and the lessons of life are explained by Virge. It is an outstanding read.

Thank you Curtis for your very generous review. We get so few sixes that I'm always humbled, especially when they come from a good writer like you! This novel is fictional, but based on lots of real things. The snake story is very much true. Bill

I thoroughly enjoyed this segment, Bill. We do the snake thing around here pretty often. Copperheads and cottonmouths get killed. The others get moved - no fun at all to step back onto a blacksnake. They don't like it much, either. The Curly Kale bit is too funny for words. "Boyfriend" indeed! Well done. :) nancy

Thanks Nancy. When I grew up, we did in fact have a kingsnake as a quasi pet. Thanks for following my story. Regards, Bill

Thank you for reading and your kind feedback. I've only got about four more chapters to go. Don't think I'll bite off on a novel for awhile. Bill

My first experience with a King Snake was hearing the dog bark and the hissing of a leaking tire. Later, I was sorry I killed it. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.

Hi Charlie - out in Arizona, you have California kingsnakes. They are really quite beautiful. My aunt in Tucson had a problem with packrats. On a morning walk, I came across a kingsnake on the golf course. I brought him home with me. Helped with the packrats!

As a child, we searched out pack rats' nests. There are some interesting finds in them. Californians have been sneaking into Arizona to avoid earthquakes.

Loved this:...I've been told I'm a sensitive person. Maybe I am, because I replied, "Yes Ma'am, she sure is." All the time, I was thinking she looked like a shriveled up frog. hahaha!
Got a chuckle here:..."Virge, I gotta tell you, I don't know if it was shaped like a shovel head or not. It was a snake head and it was connected to a snake. Who gives a shit what his head looked like?" ;p
suggestions:...(omit")Virge laughed...kingsnakes are smart.(")
Well done!

Five stars for chapter 12, and excellent adventure that covers only a couple of hours from beginning to end. You have presented good dialogue and emotions, and brought home the truth that a snake does not look the same to everyone here.

Thanks for reading and your kind feedback. The novel is fictional, but built around a lot of truth. The part about the snake is actually pretty accurate. Regards, Bill
