You offer thoughtful advice on not growing old in spirit even as one ages. I like your advice about what is age appropriate and what is just someone else's idea of age inappropriate and the idea of adjusting into a new age category. I'd love to see you do a companion piece about those folks who never adjust. Truly, there is nothing more ludicrous looking than some of the 50 plus old women walking around the mall in outfits from the juniors department, outfits which actually make them look way older than something with a bit of taste would make them look. There is a compromise taste that doesn't go frumpy and matronly but recognizes that one is no longer in high school. LOL :-) Brooke

Thanks, Brooke! In another article, I promise I'll try to devote as much time, writing about those who are trying to turn back the years and looking ridiculous doing so - lol.

LOL When hubby(75) and I (70) go out to dinner by ourselves we delight in taking the wrapper partway off the straw and then aiming the wrapper at each other. The waitress always chuckles.

You and your husband certainly have the mind, heart and soul of youth! I love it; I never would have imagined you were 70. I love your spirit - keep it going. Dossie

I believe age is a state of mind and our activities should bbe what we want. In the past, old age was a maudlin place to be. Seniors are living life today and that is following one's path and dreams. I like Betty White and Sophia Loren too.

Hear, hear. Bravo. Applause. Applause. Your statement "enjoy life on your own terms" is the kicker. You only have one life. Life it. What other people think of me, truthfully, is none of MY business. At 73, I am grateful for every day and other than a couple more challenging physical activities of old (acrobatics and cheerleading), my life and lifestyle has not changed. I'm still having a ball. Loved your article and it is written quite well.

gypsycaravan, thanks so very much! I am happy to hear you're living life on your own terms, Just remember, you're as old as you think you are, so think young and keep living. Peace!

This is a very well-written, thought-provoking piece; I agree with so much of what you've said! There are people I've known for DECADES who cared too intensely (in my opinion) about what others thought when they were young and the still care to this extent today.

'Age appropriate' brought me Adam & Eve. Also, Kidd Rock. I'm glad Betty White is old enough too.

Excellent commentary. Enjoyable to read. Great job!

Have a good weekend.

What will I do about the short red skirt that shows off my shapely legs? Wear it! I just turned 6-0 and I surprised myself by looking at a picture from when I was twenty-something. I still wear short dresses and Mary Janes. Go figure! As long as my husband likes, I do.

Sol :)

I love Betty White. It was her picture that made me click on this story. Heck, she's 90!

You only live once and growing older
should liberate you, not limit you.

You never said a truer word, Dossie..
I'm one that doesn't let age control
me. Altho I tire more easily, I still
do most all the things I did ten yrs
ago. And my children, all grown, say
they can't think of me as the age I
am, as I'm so full of life in spite
of the numerous ops I've been through.
It's frame of mind with me - I don't
believe in "can't" - one can always
try.

Most enjoyable read, my friend.

Margaret

I have never been a woman who went for "Fads" If I didn't look good in it they could keep it. I am 5ft 2in. and I looked dowdy in Maxi skirts. I wore my dresses just a tad above my knees and wore high heels. As a senior citizen now I do not cut my hair short and get a "BOB" My hair is shoulder length and the sides in a Barrett up on the crown. I still wear short skirts but the HIGH heels had to go.I wear wedgies or flats. The most important thing I wear is a smile. That makes me shine! LOL Lets break the pattern! Nancy
