I love this Haiku - it is seasonal,
creates a clear image for the reader
and has a clever Satori.
In addition you grace it with nice
alliterative phrasing - "pitter/patter" and
"crisp/cascade"
Good luck in the contest.

Hmm. I totally understand what you were trying to do with this poem, and it's a pretty smart idea. However, I'm not buying it. Leaves can't possibly sound like rain, and they definitely don't make "pitter-patter" sounds. There's rustling and perhaps scraping. Of course, it's been a while since I've sought shelter from falling leaves under a tin roof, so I may be remembering it wrong. LOL

Thank you, Edward, for your thoughtful and honest review. Regarding the "pitter patter" sound of leaves, I was having trouble sleeping last night and thought that I heard rainfall. Turns out it was leaves falling from the trees outside our bedroom window. That was how I came up with the "pitter patter."

Autumn themes make for a good haiku and your poem is no exception. This season is one of my favorite times of the year and you shared a good verse on the subject.

Oh yes! We went for a walk in woods a couple of weeks ago, and heard just the leaves you describe. In fact I had it in my head at the time to use that word "cascade" and completely forgot about it. So your poem really resonated with me. It's amazing how much noise a falling leaf can make in the silence.
Great observation which took me straight there.
A great entry, I am sure.
Best wishes

Thanks so much, Sally, for such an encouraging and delightful review. Last night, while trying to go to sleep, I thought I heard rain outside. Turns out it was the leaves falling from the trees outside our bedroom window. I'm glad that a very fine poet like yourself thought of the word "cascade" when thinking of writing about autumn leaves falling. It makes me feel good that I thought of it too!

very beautiful, the picture was very complimentary. I like these short, precise types of poetry, so few words with so much meaning and can definitely use imagination.
