This is the first personal essay I have read on this subject. I like the scene in the office at the end, five children can be a strong motivator to have the procedure done. Excellent flow of story that holds the reader's interest and encourages one to think about vasectomy.

Guess these decisions are very tough to make, but I presume you must have made the right decision. Facts of life have to be faced. Well written piece of prose with good information of the process. Faye

This is very well written and a subject we don't read much about from a personal POV.
Being a female, it was most enjoyable when I felt you cringe as the subject turned to your snip-snip as opposed to your wife's tubal ligation. But you got over it and saw the benefit.
You are a great husband!
I applaud you for your choice and see that you are a grandfather now. Congrats.

That can make or break some men. Some times it is for the better though as your well written story depicts so nicely. Know others who have experienced the same dilema.

Hi Bill,
A very well written piece which was both amusing and, quite frankly, horrific! very informative. I had no idea about the advance troops being there that would need to be 'handled'.
You have a great way with words, Bill that makes your writing very enjoyable to read.
Nice one

Excellent story. Seen no mistakes. Writing was interesting.
( Nice picture )
I cannot recall a day or an hour when I felt more ill at ease then during an appointment with our doctor concerning reproductive sterilization.

Good, well written piece... Having gone through the whole thing myself, I had to laugh as I read it. It brought back memories... I had the same conversation and came to the same conclusion. Funny ending too... Nothing like seeing a large family with several young children to dispel any doubts!

You are too funny. Great job with this very personal essay. I like the euphemisms like "the bridge out' and "I'll handle this myself.' Also the description, for example, 'The virus ovum wading out into the ocean to be devoured by lecherous sharks." Great imagery!

A very humorous well written piece. Makes you wonder what's going through your dogs mind as you casually chat with the Vet about having him neutered, huh? The comparison of shark barrier to the vasectomy was a real hoot. At least everything turned out all right, in the end, ha, ha. A very amusing article, and thanks for sharing.

I'm all out of sixes, but sure you've already gotten a few. This was absolutely a wonderful read that ended too soon for me; that's how much I enjoyed it. Oh, and you didn't have to say, this really happened to you. At the top, readers can see it a non-fiction. Great job, good writing and lots of wit.
Two kids proved we had rhythm; [Precious] LOL!
As I recall, my wife seemed to move closer to the doctor as he explained the advantages of my undergoing a vasectomy. [I like her already] LOL!
