Surely, you found this photo first. What a visual to go with your words, Art! Oh, I can understand how some might compulsively live to write and not manage to do much else.

Yes, Jude ... I found the photo first. I've collected thousands of photos through the years, and skim through them looking for one that will inspire me to write something. That's not always the case. The contest I won recently with haiku (morning mist), I wrote that haiku first, and then searched and found the perfect picture.

Compulsive writers need understanding partners and friends. I think it must be difficult for prolific novelists to have a normal life. Being too wedded to words can put some relationships on tilt.

Glad you liked this piece. Appreciate your comments ... ;0) Art

Your words are well chosen for maximum impact and they are very true. Sometimes we have to be care to not let our life be overtaken by writing lol. Good luck with the competition.

Art you got me with this one. I suffer from the "My ideas are relatable syndrome." I have learned that if I just don't be so quick to post, I have a new and better outlook on it a few days later. So what's that say? Don't be married to your words!!!!! I'm not in love with my words Art, but that said, am I compromising? From my experience...no. It's a good thing. Thank you for this SUPER 5/7/5 freedom of expression. Did you wait a few days or was it an impulse write? Just curious. This is so profound to me I hope others get it like I did. Then there is that fear of being in love that everyone likes to read. Super entry Art, it's hard to know how to approach this contest. I love your approach. XO Vicki

Hello Sir Starkitty, long time no see! Hope you haven't been caught by the Mississippi floods.

When I read the title of this, I thought of "words" - Diane. Just as well I was wrong, lol!

I like this, and yes, true enough that writers can get too caught up in those words. It did give me a chuckle! Good luck in the contest.

That picture reminds me of the video from Take On Me by Ah-ha - remember that?

Mrs Louis :)

Hello Mrs. Louis - I've been watching the Mississippi river create record flooding the past couple of days. I saw it crest down in Memphis a couple of days ago, inundating houses and farms. There have been mass evacuations for thousands of people that live too close to the river. Now, it's wiping out lots of towns and communities in the Mississippi delta area on its way down to New Orleans. We are also recovering from devastating tornadoes ... I think we had something like 160 of them in one day ... massive F4 and F5 tornadoes that killed hundreds, and destroyed cities and towns in their path. Tuscaloosa, AL was especially hard hit. Mother Nature has been on a rampage this spring.

Glad you liked this 'just for fun' 5-7-5, and got a chuckle from it.

No, I don't think I've seen the video from Take On Me, by Ah-ha..., but I'll see if I can find it.

Hope you and Louis are doing find and dandy.

Well, you got a chuckle out of me with this one, WordyKat. I kinda think that "word man" is kinda attractive. Is he single ya think? Best wishes in the contest and watch out for word golddiggers okay?

Hello GrinningIndy... I think that "word man" is having affairs with several prolific female novelists, and he can't be trusted. I would advise you not go out on a date with him. Hey... glad you got a chuckle. I wonder if this 5-7-5 would fit into any of the techniques we learned in haiku class? Appreciate all your comments ... ;0) WordyKat

LOL...this is an odd but clever thought, starkat...Got me to thinking that as long as the words I married were not "all about me" but were instead "all about my beloved" the relationship might have a long and lovely life. :>)

Thought provoking humorous little poem...good luck in the competition.

Glad you enjoyed it, Amicus. It is interesting to contemplate the extent of writers' love affairs with words. Prolific novelists must feel liked their married to words since they spend humongous amounts of time with them.

The isolation and time spent writing is a marriage/commitment.
I wonder how many are divorced because one partner becomes a writer leaving the other and cheating with the keys.
Very nice 5/7/5 poem. Good luck on the contest.

Thanks, barking dog. I think many relationships have been put on tilt because the writing partner loses track of time and isn't spending quality time with their real life partner. It takes an understanding partner to allow all that cheating going on. I'm sure there has been some divorces over this issue. Appreciate your comments ... ;0) Art

This is a good entry for this new contest, Art. It's kinda fun to be freed of haiku rules for a 5-7-5, isn't it? (I have a bunch of 5-7-5 that really don't cut it as haiku.) Good luck to you, Jeanie Mercer

Thanks, Jeanie. This contest is basically my original Just for Fun 5-7-5 contest I created a long time ago to be free from the restrictive rules of haiku and senryu. After taking that haiku class, I also have a bunch of 5-7-5 haiku that my mind wants to edit downwards - clarifying by eliminating unnecessary words. We learned a lot in class, didn't we? Did you enter this contest?

I have not entered it yet, but plan to just as soon as I'm not quite so member-dollar broke! Yes, we did learn a lot in that haiku class. Jeanie
