What a charming piece, Connie! I love a story that surprises me. :) Who knew? LOL
I first thought the narrator was a cantankerous elderly lady, then I thought - wait, it must be a snooty young woman. I literally laughed out loud when I realized she was a dog.
A delightful read from a fabulous author.
I have no suggestions. This is perfect.
Congratulations on your win! I'm happy for you. :)

Congratulations on your contest win! This story is adorable, a unique take on the opening line. You create sympathetic characters, and I love it that they are dogs... Great job!

This is a lovely story - I like the way it only gradually dawns on the reader that the speaker is a dog! The story reads well and I like the dialogue between the dogs and the happy ending.

Connie C, this is a wonderful story with a surprising Disney-like twist in the middle that really captured my attention and held it to the end. Your narrative and dialogue flow smoothly and the storyline is absolutely beautiful and tender. I loved it. Very well done ! Amarillys

Hi Connie, this is cute. I guess I'm not used to dogs talking so it took me a little more than half the story to pick up on the characters. That's good writing.
Had to even go back and re-read the first part. Yep. I missed the clues.
Well done, no SPaG. pat

Oh, this is so cute. Of course, as you intended, I thought at first that she was a beautiful young girl abandoned by her boyfriend.
Pomeranians really do have a mind of their own, and are quite capable of making their desires known.
That was quite a ploy to get Jack noticed - with the desired results.

Connie, I absolutely LOVE this. I have written hardly any stories and want to learn, and this is such a superb example. Jack and Chloe completely won my heart - and I'm not even a specially doggy person!
For starters, I noticed no nits at all, which made reading a pleasure uninterrupted by distractions of punctuation or spelling.
I think I twigged quite early on that this was not a human relationship, but that did not spoil the story at all. In fact, it rather enhanced it. Little touches like Chloe turning her back on Jack and looking upwards. I could just see her in her pen.
Clever teasing in the broken relationship with Brad. And then Jack is such a charmer! What a touching blend of humour and sadness. Beautifully done.
"It's okay, Sweetie, who wants an old dog like me anyway?" he says sullenly. Just broke my heart!
I can't think of many stories I have read that I have enjoyed more. A huge bravo from me.

Thank you, Sally, for all your wonderful comments and for the six-star rating. I am a converted dog lover (always just loved cats until I married a dog owner). I love writing about animals. I see that you have become a fan of mine. I am so humbled by that, and I hope I don't disappoint you in the future. Thank you again for all the praise of my story. Have a wonderful day, my friend. You have certainly made mine! Connie :-)

What a cute story - I really had no idea it was going to take the twist it did - I enjoy being "tricked" so successfully - I love the dialogue and interaction between the narrator and Jack in the first section, and I was really rooting for him, and then when he said he was going to check out the next day, I thought he was a guy contemplating suicide, perhaps because he was mortally ill. I am so glad it turned out to be a couple of dogs at a shelter and they both got their happy ending!!! :-) Brooke

Thank you, Brooke, for your lovely review. I'm glad I fooled you into thinking Jack and Chloe were humans as that was my intention. I really wanted to include a picture of a couple of dogs (so many cute ones from which to choose), but that would have given it away. Have a great day, and I'll be looking forward to your postings today. Connie
