Wow, and congratulation on that win. That was a wonderful write, a wonderful poem and a wonderful tribute to one of the greatest painter to be around. That his life should end in such misery is beyond words, only to be celebrated after his demise. What a wonderful poem. A joy to read. Ulla x

Congratulations on winning this contest, Beth. You deserved it. This is a well-written poem that tells us much about the life of this famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh. I'd forgotten he hadn't become popular until after his death. Thanks for sharing again.

Well done! I enjoyed this poem and thought it was well written that was before I scrolled down and found that you were a winner and all the rest.
I enjoyed the way you described Vincent it is sad that like a lot of artists their skills are not recognized till after they are dead.

' A Tortured Life ' , is an extremely well-written and deftly descriptive piece. Penned with craft and skill. This talented poet's work was a pleasure
to both read and review. Congratulations on winning the contest. I look forward to seeing your next post.

I understand why you won with this contest entry, Beth/ I enjoyed reading it. I like the way you 'spoke' to VVGogh. Your lines read smooth with good end rhymes. I like the color scheme and the art choice. You made several great points about art and its acceptance by critics, or not. Who's to say?
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you Jan. I really appreciate the review and comments. I majored in art in college and although Van Gogh isn't my favorite artist, I have respect for his work and I feel bad about the way he was treated by his peers.

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

Captures Van Gogh extremely well. While he was overlooked in his day he is highly regarded now.

Four stanzas full of strong rhymes help paint the portrait of his life.

Easy to see why this won the contest back in the day.

Not in the least surprised that this won. Stunning verse--a magnificent tribute to this tortured artist who, as you ironically note, had been disregarded in his lifetime.

Nice work. I'm just confused about the Vincent remark: *Vincent they would be in time*. You (that is, the object of this poem) are the one who is Vincent.

Unless, that is, you are making an urban dictionary reference: "A person who sucks at all videogames but is nice and friendly. Most Vincents rage easily at videogames."

Idk.

Thank you for the review. The line above says the critics of his day didn't appreciate him. I address him saying but, Vincent, they will appreciate you, in time. I'm addressing Vincent Van Gogh.

I've always wondered why people never see the genius in an artist while they are alive. What a wonderfully written poem. Best of luck with your writing!

Congrats on the win!
Have a great day, and God bless.

Thank you so much Mike. I really appreciate the review and great comments. I feel bad for someone so sensitive that gets so little encouragement in his own time. It doesn't do much good to be famous after you are no longer around.

Wow! This was fantastic, Beth! You really understand this tortured soul. But from his pain, he was able to render such beauty in his art. Thank you for repromoting so we could all enjoy this poem which deserved to win!!
