G'day BethShelby
Like you I grew up a country kid and barns and sheds have a lasting attraction for me. Perhaps it's becausae they were where we could play 'out of sight, out of mind' when we were young.
Nice, homely piece.

Thank you Joemass, I appreciate the review and your comments. I spent many hours playing the loft of a barn climbing on bales of hay are whatever was up there.
Cheers,
Beth

Yes, what lies inside that old barn I wonder?
I can understand your love of them as places of interest. To me they always seem to represent times past and 'rustic things.'
I find them quite fascinating too - there may be some old farm implements, or even an old car (now worth a fortune)in there.

Thank you for the review and comments. I've been in many of them and there usually is old farm implements or tractors around. There are usually stalls for horses or cattle. A crib for storing the food for the animals and a loft with hay or stored antiques. some of the have tobacco drying on cotton pilled for later ginnnig. They are facinating both inside and out. I love all mills also. I grandfather was a miller.
Cheers,
Beth

This is a nice well written poem about barns. I am with you, a country girl at heart. I use to play up in the lost and get small bales and throw down on my sister's head. It was fun until we had to clean it up. Thank you for bringing back those memories. great job, Shirley

BethShelby,
Charming and well written poem. There is beauty in older barns. Your rhyme and descriptive scheme are excellent. Awe inspiring photo you used in your ode to barns. I used to drive down Route 66 where I live in Oklahoma to see the old barns on a drive. The Round Barn in Arcadia, Oklahoma is wonderful. The lines I enjoyed:
I am still a country girl at heart;
no longer there, yet it's still part
of what made me into whom I'd be.
Barns are part of my history.
I was a pleasure reading your poem.
Melissa.

Nicely done...Is it like one of those deja vu moments when something reminds you and tells you've already done that...Or just a warm connection to memories from long ago?
Great job...

I don't even remember. I like to paint old barn and photograph them but I also got my first kiss in an old barn and spent many hours playing in them. They do bring back memories. I don't even mind the odors.
Cheers,
Beth

I'm so with you here! We go to Wisc. to look at the barns and I just love log cabins. Anything rustic, in fact, they have rustic roads that you can travel on and see so many of your faves. We have homes in our area made from all wood and I'd give anything to live in one. I'm so glad you posted this and brought it back to mind. . .Sharon

Hi Sharon, I'm glad you share my enthusiasm for old barns and anything rustic, like log cabins and old grist mills and wind mills. Thanks for reviewing and leaving your comments. Sorry it took a while to get back to you. I had an appendectomy over the weekend.
Cheers,
Beth

well done and so much a reminder of my families ranch in oregon, I loved the poem, the rhymes, the smoothness of the structure, the images told a great story, no errors and no revisions.

Hi, Beth, Your poem and the artwork make me want to start photographing barns, too! There is a really cool one in central Wisconsin, with a huge Native American head painted on it. It is old and worn now, and even more intriguing. Your poem flows sell, and the rhyme just seems perfect. You did a great job on this. Love it! Mary

I like this, the first two stanzas flow and read nicely. The third stanza gives me just a little trouble; "I'm still just country girl at heart", sounds just a little childlike and I wonder if you said "I'm still a country girl at heart" if it wouldn't read smoother. Also, "of what made me into whom I'd be" trips my tongue up a bit, I keep trying it out though! I really like the picture.

Thank you for the review and comment. I thought I had an a in that sentence. I put the just in because that line is supposed to have nine syllables.

Your poem is just wonderful and brings back the farm memories of yesteryear. The artwork is fabulous and I love how the barn has fixed itself into the environment and become a natural part of the trees. You did an excellent job of choosing this piece. Lovely flow of words and imagery.
