She should be outraged. Taking someone to a public place to ask for a divorce so they won't explode, is horrible. That's as bad as breaking up with someone through a text message. I liked the phrase, "gutless wonder." Great little story. Best wishes in the contest.

It's very sad when people come to the end of a marriage. The one thing that my husband and I had when we were married as we both out that we would honor that marriage through the end of life for one or the other of us. And that's exactly what we did for almost 37 years. We had three beautiful dollars in that marriage and we had a lovely home Man but a lovely and comfortable home. Patricia.

I think she was right, he thought she would be more interested in not making a scene than what he was saying. He was wrong, and I say, "Go Girl"
I enjoyed your Dialogue only story, well done.
cheers

My big question is how can you live with someone for a time long enough to make the decision to divorce and not realize that your relationship has deteriorated to the point of desiring a divorce.

Heh heh, yes, how could a man be so unthinkingly thoughtless to ask for a divorce at a restaurant? Great pose D&V I hope you do well upon the contest, good luck, blessings Roy

You would be surprized how many reviewers thought that the woman wanted the divorce! The reviewers thought the man started the conversation. I'm glad I left it ambigous.
-
Yep, ambiguity sounds good
Comment from Alexandra Trovato
Good job with the dialogue. I think he could've been worse though. Someone could ask for a divorce in many ways. A dinner is the better of those. ;)
I think the dialogue was well written and authentic.
Best wishes!

Cute story, Don! I'm sure he's not the first man/person to break up with someone publicly hoping to avoid confrontation. I'm not sure he gets what he hoped for, though. And, he had to pay for dinner.
Great job,
Rhonda

Rhonda, you would be amazed at how many reviewers thought the man started the dialogue. I'm glad I left it ambiguous.

DonandVicki,
What a great dialogue writing. You told a complete story in those few short lines. The story is well organized and flows well. It was pretty heartless of her to bring him to their favorite restaurant to ask for a divorce. Like you say at least he was man enough to pay for the meal. Personally, if it was me she would have to pay for her own meal. Just saying.
Well done my friends

Actually the woman started the dialogue, but your take on it is quite fascinating. Thank you.

Yes, she's going to take him to the cleaners now and paying the bill is only the beginning! I like the tension and awkwardness from the start and, in such a short piece of dialogue, you capture well the disconnect and distance that can occur in relationships. Well done, Don, and good luck! Debbie

He chose the stage--a public place to display their most crushing moment, ending their marriage. Did he need the surroundings to give him backbone, or did he not think it through clearly? As for paying the bill, it's how some generations were taught, but in his case, I think he will be paying and regretting things for a long time. Money isn't everything.
