Fran is a very smart cookie and with her loyal friend and hacker, Patty, she's quickly on the case. Kevin certainly looks a strong suspect but is he smart enough and is this just a red herring? He didn't use a burner and he might just have been after a date or something? Great pace and background knowledge in this chapter, Jim, and an excellent, faultlessly written read. Well done! Debbie

Thanks so much, Debbie. She has her suspicions, and now she just has to prove it. It's tough when you are the one under scrutiny and told to stay out of it. Not in Fran's nature to do that.

Fran is using her undoubted skills in her investigations concerning how her brothers drug discovery hitting the streets and binding up more alternative ways of addiction. I don't know how she's going to solve it, but solve it she will, well done, blessings Roy

She's pretty sure who it is. Now she just has to prove it to her boss's satisfaction and get her and her brother off the hook for it. Tough to just sit around and do nothing when the suspicion is on you.

Yep I'm sure

Okay, we have a suspect, and we have a plan. Now we need to carefully execute this plan. I like this story, and I can't wait to read more. I know I'll enjoy the next read too.

Thanks, Barbara. Let's hope the execution matches the theory and shes not just barking up the wrong tree.

Fran sounds like she is on to something that will lead to finding out how this drug her brother invented got out on the street. I can understand why she feel like she would be the one who would best know how to get to the bottom of this. I'm enjoying the story.

She and Brian certainly know the most about it, and Fran knows all the players involved. There aren't too many avenues of its getting out, and she seems to have identified the most plausible one. Let's hope she's right. So glad you're enjoying it, Beth.

Excellent. Many tangents to go off on. Good strong writing. Different take entirely. Kevin is more than a dull knife. He is venal. He seriously needs to be hoisted on his own petard. Go get him sweetie. Karen

Thanks so much, Karen. I probably won't dwell much on the petard hoisting. I'll leave that up to your imagination. That's more your thing. I'll be concentrating more on what to do to stop the spread of Dipraxa. There will be some science involved in that.

You have a very analytical mind. I went back and read some of lancelot's stuff. Boy, howdee how does he walk carrying an ego that big? I do apologize for wearing my "I shall protect all women hat". I was wrong you were right. Bronze this, it is not likely to happen again. LOL

That's funny. Now, if I could ever get my wife to admit that, I'd die happy!

Don't count your chickens Honeybunch. She lives with you everyday. I write you here. I have the ability to turn you silent with the push of a button. Power, baby, power! :-)

Yes, perhaps a little more action and adventure in this story than others I've written. I can't leave the science out of it entirely, though, and there will be some more of that later on. Glad you enjoyed it, Tom.

Error-free, as near as I can tell.
Sounds like a clean pole vault for Fran. (explained in the next line)
... but he was far from the sharpest knife in the drawer, ... - I think we've discussed this topic before, and if so, I think I recall your comment that "you were okay with it" - overused cliched phrases, metaphors, similes, whatever. 'knife in the drawer, tool in the shed, pin in the cushion.
It prob'ly isn't worth the effort to invent a new one each time such a phrase is appropriate. After all, how many can there be that are easily interpreted?
Best wishes.

Though I don't remember having discussed this with you before, I agree with your conclusion. Usually when I consider using a cliche like this one, I check the internet to see if there are any other good ones that aren't as common. I did that for Duel with the Devil and came up with a few good ones for the familiar "Does a bear shit in the woods" like "Does Dolly Parton sleep on her back" and "Does a 1-legged duck swim in circles" which I had never heard before. In this case, though, none of the ones I found were very good, and most all were pretty well known, so I just opted for "Not the sharpest knife in the drawer" which is easy to interpret.

She is smart - but surely her superiors ought to have been able to think along those lines and find out the same information from security people. Hopefully this will not come back to hurt her or her brother that she has gone ahead and done this investigation herself. I continue to enjoy each chapter of your story, and the way you weave information into the dialogue. Very well written.

Thanks very much, Wendy. I agree, her superiors probably would have investigated this line--eventually--but I'm sure they would have started with Fran and Brian. That's why Fran jumped right on it even though she knew there was some risk in doing it. But she knows her boss and his tendencies.

I'm glad you have a non-caricatured computer geek in Patty Mattson. I wonder what convolution has to occur next because it's obvious that Fran couldn't have found the mole that fast. I guess the plot will thicken another way.

We shall see. You're correct about the plot thickening in another way--actually two other ways. The larger issue than finding out the source of the leak is what to do about it now. That will be the fun part.

The investigation goes ahead behind closed doors here and Fran is making progress. For ordinary people to make drugs that are addictive in their homes must be illegal and Brian is ultimately responsible for it being sold on the streets isn't he? It is wonder he hasn't been arrested yet. Another fine chapter in this story Jim, love Dolly x

Thanks very much, Dolly. Yes, there are very strict laws about making illegal drugs in your home. But he was using an avenue (sodium channel blocking) that wouldn't be considered illegal (like employing opioid receptors) as the way his drug works.
He was willing to risk it and only test it on himself, which is not illegal, before filing everything he needed to to get approval for human trials from the FDA. So he tried to do everything legally, but he could still be found culpable if they can't find the real culprit, and that's why Fran wants to find him quickly before he falls under any more suspicion.
-
I sounds like you know quite a lot about this drug making malarkey and I wonder if you are a chemist? Ha ha ha, love Dolly x
-
No, not a chemist. Just interested in it and did a bunch of research about it for the stories.
