This is a marvelous story, and I very much enjoyed listening to it. There have been a many youth who have gone to church camp, grudgingly and come back different people. I enjoyed your story about how Andrew through this experience and how he has become the father and the man that you are so proud of today. Have a good day and a good weekend.

Thank you for understanding. I am very proud of who Andrew is today.

I also taught classes in our church which my kids were in - Sunday school teacher, alternating children each year, and vacation Bible school in some capacity each year. As my kids got older, they became my "helpers" instead of my students. I believe parents should practice what they preach.
"I wish could have" - add another "I", I wish I could have
"As we ate lunch one day, sandwiches." - make the period a comma.
"Only a few were strong enough to carry the bundle of shingles up a ladder." I know it's intended to mean that Andrew did, but I would add, "Andrew was one of those people." Or something similar.
"His coached blessed off and supported Andrew attending this program." This is a little confusing.
Thanks, Barbara, for sharing this. Our kids often learn by doing things they don't want to. I would also be very proud of my child for not only going back, but allowing the lessons to seep into his heart.

Thank you for the help. I edit a few times but not nearly as much as I do my novels and it shows.

Thanks for sharing this super story. At the school where I taught there was a winter holiday program for the Year Elevens to go outback to work in remote towns and help the locals and their church. They repaired fences and homes and painted the church etc. It was a wonderful experience for all of them. And yes, it does kids good to see how the other half lives.

How wonderful that Andrew did that summer mission program! I wish we required all teenagers to do a volunteer program as part of their education! It could stop all the sense of entitlement in today's youth!
The waters cool and I'm not hot anymore. (water's)
This family got their get new water pipes. (got to get?)

Hello Barbara.
This is a good chapter regarding Andrew and what he learned in one year. It's always important to read about how youngsters are in a situation and how they grow from that. You did very well in this story. He sounds like a fine young man

I can understand why these stories are so vivid to you. With your husband away in Iraq and you holding the fort your focus would have been very much on the two youngest still at home. Looking back, you see the character emerging of a young man growing into adulthood with strong emotions and opinions that will serve him well. Thanks for sharing. Debbie

This was a beautiful testimony to what God can do in all circumstances. You had the right idea about bringing up children. God will greatly bless you for that. My daughter had some problems but never reneged on her Christianity. Isn't it great to feel God working in your family?

Wonderful post, Barbara. That's how our young people should learn and experience how difficult life can be for those who aren't as fortunate. He did an awesome job and you must be so proud. Well done!

It's great to see your kids get involved in projects that help people in need. There are many areas in our country where help is desperately needed.

There are many places in this country that need to this. The church district did a great service for poverty areas and to help teach teens what service is. Thank you for the kind review. You are now added to my previous post.
