This sounded like a poem about suicide. It seemed to be aimed at the notion that it was a noble gesture. As if it was a different culture. This was a very unique style and I've never seen this type of poem. Gretchen

Your poignant poem about a planned suicide definitely catches the thoughts and emotions of a person driven to such drastic measures. It's usually characterized in such a negative fashion, and it should be, but you bring the thoughts behind why a person would do such a thing to light.

Oh, no! This looks like it's about someone who will have a tragic ending at their own choosing.... Dark and so sad. Depression and suicide leave such lasting affects on everyone.

Thank you very much .I read about students suicide in India .In 2022 there was 22 suicides every day!!

All the tees have been crossed and all the eyes have been dotted, yet this is one dark and frightening piece eliciting, at least for me, the thought of suicide being a way out.

Yes to some it seems the best solution. It brings closure for them but not for those left behind.
Some who choose suicide suffer from mental issues,
others have emotional issues caused by a marriage gone sour, a divorce etc.
I remember two married women decided to go over a cliff in Thelma and Louise, they didn't want to go back to their abusive husbands.
Committing suicide leaves loved ones and relatives devastated. Some feel guilty because they didn't see the signs, for many life is over, and they never recover from the shock.
Suicide has been on the rise since the pandemic. Folks lost their job, others found their firm/business buried in debt and they took their lives.
In the 1980s priests were finally allowed to conduct a service and bury in a Catholic cemetery people who died by suicide.

Oy! How you have captured the ache with this. And the cavalier inclusion of "the mess" on this fleeting list as if it's so nothing. So mitigated, when, in reality, the mess is never fully cleaned away from the lives of those left behind in its aftermath. This is excruciatingly well done. xo
