This line conveys a strong sense of self-satisfaction and resilience, highlighting the speaker's pride in enduring life's challenges. The use of "smug" adds a layer of complexity, suggesting a mix of confidence and perhaps a touch of arrogance.

Thank you

If only old age, was this kind to most senior citizens, we probably wouldn't need - all these nursing homes in this country or anywhere else.. Great: heart warming image.

Looking very happy about it, too! It's impressive, and not something granted to everyone; that's for sure. Love the twinkle in those eyes and the Coca-Cola bottle on display - for all the neighsayers who claim it's so bad for us!! xoxo

Beautiful isn't she. I honestly love to talk to older people. The richness of knowledge and kindness of spirit. I am myself an old soul in a young body. I hate when society pushes out or marginalizes the efforts of older citizens. We never listen to them and keep repeating history. We are doomed by our own arrogance.

Hi, Jen
I'm sure you won't tell me ha ha ha but how old are you?
I never thought I would make it to my age either, but I'm relatively young compared to a lot of people on this site I'm 71
I wouldn't say I feel smug. Sometimes I think I'd rather be dead.
At least you have all your faculties as do I
Good luck in the contest. I hope you win it.

Jennintorre,
A very sweet poem!
The photo is really nice.
I can't imagine living so long.
All the more power to this woman.
Nice one line poem, author.
Best wishes,
Cindy

We all hope to stick around for as long as we can, but most everyone, including me, have outlived any chance of being anything but worthless.
Thanks for sharing.

God has his plan and only he knows when our time is up. I've lost so many family members ...all younger than me. I assume he has something for me to do, but I don't know what so for now I write and find my happiness there. I know I've been blessed. Your picture and words brought a big smile to my face....Loved it!

Both your image and your ;poem made me laugh out loud. "Getting old is not for sissies" is what I've usually heard, but this clearly defies that warning. Good for you!

Lol. That's how my dad felt, after he outlived all his siblings. My cousin was so afraid to tell him his last sibling died but when we told him, he just said, "I won." I guess one never knows what a 93 year old with Alzheimer's would say.
Best wishes in the contest!
