I just love me some alliteration! And this Choka (I was afraid someone was going to slip their fingers around my neck as I read this!) is chock full of them.
I've already given you a six this week, and I don't usually give two to the same person in one week, but I almost had to with this. I just loved everything about it.
So the six you got for your story - that was for this too.
P.S. I LOVE watermelon.

It's my favorite fruit, too!! And I learned from Wendy G this week that in Australia, they get to have it year-round. Time to move; that's what I say!! Australia, here we come: the sicko asshole sisters!! xoxo

Clever use of alliteration through the piece. I love this picture. It fits the piece well. It gave me a connection to the choka poetry and literary traditions of ancient Japan

Thanks. The picture was courtesy of Gypsy, who is the facilitator of this club. So, she chooses the pic, and we're supposed to write an attendant poem for it, given that week's assigned form.
Comment from Wendy G
Very nice response to the prompt. The alliteration is great. The choka style is quite unusual, but I quite like it. We can get watermelon all year round, but in summer it's fantastic to cool one down. Well done.

That does it! I'M MOVING TO AUSTRALIA!! I love watermelon; it's my favorite fruit, but we only get to have it in summer...and summer's drawing to a close.
Thanks for this thoughtful (and illuminating) review! xoxo

I'm a member of the club but I haven't penned a poem in a while. Choka sounds interesting. The alliteration in your offering adds to the fun of your topic. Watermelon is delicious served cold and fresh. The rind also makes a lovely cooling drink with a delicate flavour. Nicely done poem in perfect syllable count.
Blessings, Julia

Thanks very much.
How do you turn the rind into a cool drink? I had no idea!

Wow, what a lot of fun alliteration in your choka poem! I really liked :
"The cripsy crunches
resonate: ripe, red richness,"
That picture is cute, too! Hooray for watermelon on a hot summer day.

Ohhh, it is my FAVORITE fruit by far. And Wendy G just advised it grows there year-round! I told her I'm moving to Australia. Really, what choice to I have? It's nearly the end of summer (and watermelon) here in upstate NY!!

Watermelon sounds really good right about now. Your pen has made my mouth water for some. You described watermelon just right. Great job on this poem. I enjoyed reading.

I have an ongoing summer love affair with watermelon. I cannot seem to eat enough. By all rights, I should LOOK like a watermelon, and yet I don't. (thankfully!)
Thanks for the fun review. Now go eat a watermelon!! xoxoxo

Watermelon is very good for you. I got some in my refrigerator and all it needs it a bit of salt. 😊
-
Yesss! I add salt, too. Not everyone does. (What are they THINKING??!) xo

Exactly

Oh Rachelle, I can almost taste that watermelon through your description !
I like it cold right from the refrigerator. Although I do remember in college we spiked/injected the watermelon with gin LOL

Ah, yes!! I remember those special brand of watermelons!!
Tell me, do you prefer yours with or without salt?
-
R,
I like my sweets, so no salt for me except for potato chips or Saratoga chips (-;

I have a phenomenal sweet tooth, as well. But, for me, watermelon with salt is a must. I also love potato chips...but thumbs down for those Saratoga chips!! (hahaha)

Shoot, now I want a juicy watermelon. This was full of crisp lines and vivid imagery. It was fun and childlike. You're killing this poetry thing, Rachelle. My poetry is like my musical ability ... nil. Gretchen

I was feeling happy about mine...UNTIL I read the one Judiverse wrote, and then I felt like a kindergartener in a PhD program. OYYY!! But thank you for your kind and generous words all the same. I did appreciate them. xoxoxo

Don't compare your poetry to others. Take it from an artist. You will have people drawn to your work and you have to accept that some people prefer your writing. Doesn't matter if you think you're a kindergartener. You're a scholar to others.

I enjoyed reading your CHOKA poem and your 5/7... meter. The alliteration throughout is nicely done. You included sensory pictures with taste, sight, and sound, as well as summer activities. I have a sudden hunger for watermelon! Blessings. Carol

I spend every day of summer eating watermelon! I hope you get some soon!
Thank you for this thorough and very specific review. This is my favorite kind of receive. xoxo
-
I had actually just finished eating a slice before I read your poem! We've enjoyed quite a few this summer.

Same!

I enjoyed the choka poem. The watermellon is something I've not had in a long time. I always had all the watermellon I wanted as a child when it was in season. My grandma told he the reason ladies stomachs were big was because they swallowed watermelon seed. They were pregnant but I was extremely cautious. There is nothing like watermelon fresh off the vine. If it isn't perfect toss it and cut another one.
