Wow, Jim, thos was an incredible essay. I have always loved the old monster movies from the fifties. Used to stay up late on Friday and Saturday night to watch those campy shows. I thought as deeply into it as your piece. It was strictly entertainment. But your writing was well thought out and engaging. Great job. Gretchen

Thank you for the visit to the monsters of my youth as well as the introduction to monsters of old.
Have you ever read Jim Butcher? He's written of every ghoul and gobblin imaginable.

This is very well written and I enjoyed listening to it. I have never been want to want to watch things that deal with monsters. I know people get charge out of listening to them, but I just do not find it in my creative box. Patricia.

Excellent! Love this! I'm a history and "how this came to be" fan. I remember learning how Frankenstein came to be written, and how that tied into the world at that time.
"After years of prosperity and merriment, people relaxed their motives and morals." Our great loss.
I find it ironic that so many early films and stories were inspired by the advance of technology and continue to this day. Well done, sir!

Cheers-
M

Jim, good job. Monsters can be oh so real when you are in the dark. I am amazed at the amount of detail you put into your research for this short article. Gary loves those old creepy black and white movies about monsters. Once we were watching an alligator movie and couldn't find our Jack Russell. She was hiding behind the toilet. Esther

I appreciate all the research and work you put into this essay of the history of monster movies. As a child, I liked going to see scary movies with my mom, up until the time I was the first one home from school and had to wait half an hour before my sisters arrived home. I thought of every scary thing I had ever seen, even 'The Fifty Foot Woman," and trees in Africa that could talk. Oh how goofy. Thank you for the memories, and all the new information.

As usual, what you have to say is thought-provoking and interesting. But there are enough typos to convince me that you didn't reread it. This piece has important content, but it could do with some tightening. I'd really like to see a second iteration!

You might not have covered everything, but I'd be willing to bet you've covered about everything. You've sure done a lot of hard work on this piece, and I wish I had a six to reward it properly. Thanks for sharing.

"the evolution of monsters, and society" Basically, the evolution of humans in the world.
"monster and dinosaur movies of the past century and how they shaped our lives" Apt, as they are so like us.
"People have forgotten morals. Many have no God." So true.
Interesting expose on the history of monster movies.

I never watched monster or horror anything. I did make the mistake of watching Alfred Hitchcock's, "The Birds". It still haunts me today, especially if I see a large group of birds. I know it's stupid. Scary movies are not for me. Thank you for sharing.
