You have a light feel and flow to your words. Your poem reads like a mini movie, the reader can see this lady who is about to be married fall into addiction. The reader feels sadness for this lady. You have a vivid use of words that captures feelings and emotions.

a powerful and sad poem about a women getting old and lost in the reveries and thoughts like the last lines

Inside her mind she fin'ly knows
that children there are from her past
Her mind is merging with her soul
to find a peace she hopes will last

Sounds like you lost a beloved bridesmaid to addiction. So sorry for your loss.
This is a wonderful free verse with some beautiful lines
I like addiction's open arms. How true! I have a brother that struggles with addiction so I understand.
Very well done!

This sad poem, The Dress, becomes the picture of a fall from the pinnacle of life and togetherness to the pit of depression which sends the white flag of surrender to cover the bride's release to death.

Wow, this was just beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. You really managed to tell dual stories in one poem that ultimately equal one story to you. I can really feel the emotions behind your writing.

My heart is breaking for this entry for the Sad Poems writing prompt competition. To go from the joy and anticipation of your special day, sharing this meaningful time to mourning the deeply tragic loss--this sorrow is so searing in your words and the words are so elegantly poignant. My condolences.

Goodness gracious, mystery poetess. This is spin on the sad, sad story I've heard too often, someone close and precious in one's life dying of an overdose. A heartbreaking reality, and a bridesmaid dress she never wore. You won the contest, at least in my tearry eyes.
Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the upcoming vote.

Wow. This was indeed mov in g and very sad as you told her story. Addiction is a powerful enemy and thief of life, hope and dreams, and touches many apart from the victim.
Well written. Best wishes for your entry.

Stunning and prescient. Drugs every year now take more lives than all America's war deaths, suicides, murders and car accidents lumped together. I keep hearing of kids I grew up with in stable, loving families dying from Chinese fentanyl. Your wordplay was magnificent, never cheesy, executed as elegantly and tragically as the subject of your poem.

The story your poem relates is both disappointing and sad. Anticipation of a joyful moment deteriorates into the sadness of death. I love the way the focus of the story is on the purchase of a dress which will never be worn.
Imaginative. Best wishes in the contest.
