Hi Beth, very good. Your story made me laugh. I could see the whole scene unfold before my very eyes. I don't know if the shy young man will ever recover from that sight. A fun story. Thank you for sharing.

Lol. That's a funny and clever story, and well told. One can imagine his embarrassment. Sad for the old lady. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

Thank you Wendy. My cousin told me a lot of strange things she encountered working there. I thought this one was funny.

I'm sure the young man was mortified by the encounter you described. Working in an Alzheimer's unit can be challenging, especially when the patients have that condition and don't know what they are doing.

Wonderful, Beth! I could imagine this happening too because, although you're limited with your word count, you still manage to convey this scenario perfectly. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Thank you Debbie. I had to keep cutting words but it still made sense at 50.

Variations on this were commonplace in many Nursing Homes I worked at over the decades. We lost quite a few workers in various positions early on! This is a great Dribble Flash... and thank goodness we've made some (not enough) progress with "Memory Care" units so that these men and women are better understood and guided...

I guess now they are explaining to the workers even in maintence what they might encounter. I can understand a lot of people unable to handle it might not stay long.

You are spot on. They do try to "educate" all staff -- and some just do not take to this kind of behavior...

    I understand!

I had one Alzheimer's patient for whom I bought take-out now and then. She wanted to take her out and said she'd be honored to go out with me. Thank God I wasn't a predator! She seems to have disappeared, and I hope now she is in a memory-care unit.

I would hate worse than anything to lose my memory. Some of the seem resonally content but others are aware of what they are losing and are very frustrated. Thanks for the review.

Thank you Barbata. It is a sad but now harm is done by finding whatever there is to smile about in life. I'll bet most young me would feel like Joel. My son was horified when he accidently walking into an unlocked bathroom on his wife's grandmother.
