Wow, This touches me more than you can imagine. It is as if you're starting a story about my origins which I now know all about after I found my birth parents. Now to the next part. Ulla xcx

I'm glad the prologue moved you, but I don't know if the storyline will follow your hopes.... just remember it's just my crazy brain dreaming up things.

Thanks so much for starting another story with me.

This sounds interesting, and I am sure there is a wonderful book coming. I am not sure how your brain can switch so masterfully from your previous book so quickly. I gather the baby belongs to Charles? There must have been a period of recuperation after you mentioned his bandage head and legs. I was surprised the transfer back to England would happen so quickly. But- it's a great beginning. Looking forward to more.

Thank you, Wendy, for reading and commenting on the upcoming story. Since the contest is already started, I jumped right in. Hope I can pull this off... The story will begin in present day and will uncover current and past mysteries.
    Thank you so much,

This is a great beginning to a new book. You have presented two people with similar interests and desires who have fallen in love but are kept apart by a war and a past marriage and an unexpected pregnancy. I presume this is a set up for their child to find both of them and find his/her own love.

oh! What a sad story. You have me all emotional over that one. I enjoyed the story very much but I was anxious to keep reading and reach the happy ending lol you fooled me! Well, I guess all stories can't have happy endings and the unhappy ones are probably the most real. Nicely written.

It's just the prologue for the book that starts in present day....but thank you for the kind thoughts and review. I hope you will continue to follow the story. Thank you so much.

This reminds of a great British love story, that played out over many years, between a British nurse and a 2nd lieutenant in the British army, he is shipped off to the war in Korea, they fall in love, but letters written by both don't reach each other, and they lose contact, they accidentally meet many years later, both have married but have lost their partners. The story starts there, starring Dame Judy Dench and Geoffrey Palmer, it's called 'As time goes by' see if you can it on the net, you'll love it. It ran for years, Blessings Roy

Oh, gosh that sounds like a summary of the beginning of my story....not very promising! Except when the story starts it's present day and hopefully things are much different than what you just describe. My story starts with Eleanor dead....so I guess my heroine dies in the first scene. that gave me a chill, Roy. Is that why you gave me a four? You don't think I did something wrong do you? Now I will be a wreck.

You have become a writing machine, my friend. My head is still full of your last novel, and here you are staring another. If it's as good as the last one, I will be with you every step of the way.

Carol,
Your writing style, is excellent. You move the story along with an even pace; I'm waiting to see if the two lovers meet again some day.
Great first chapter, Carol.

This will be a very intense book. I can't wait to read more. I am guessing this baby was from her husband, but not sure. I can't wait to read more. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. Good luck with the contest.

I think are going to be surprised by this one in more than a few ways. I hope you enjoy it like you did Unwilling Heir. Once again I only have a rough draft in my head so we will see where it takes us. LOL Thanks so much for the lovely stars and your support.

I like what you've done here. It captures the human struggles of guilt, promise, and longing by two individuals caught up in a situation outside of their control. It is sad since the forced change in their lives are confusing and cause them pause to move forward.

Nicely done! Your prologue is a beautifully written tale of love set against the backdrop of World War II. The characters' deep connection during the chaos of war comes through so well. You could feel the heart wrenching decisions that they faced. That added so much emotion and tension to the story. What a perfect start!
