This five line poem is packed with exquisite visual and emotional content, both painting and song at the same time. This should definitely do well in the contest. It has my vote. I wish I had six stars for it.

I think these poems are hard to write (being a non-poet, I especially marvel at those who can). I like how the first two lines complement each other, than lines 3 and 4 do the same; finally, the last line sums up what the four lines bring to memory.
I'm sure it's hard sometimes, Beth.
Thank you for sharing this excellent post.

Thank Pam. Yes i find writing these very hard and I'm not sure why. I'd much rather write a longer rhymed poem.

Well, you ARE a good writer, after all. So, for that reason, I'm not at all surprised. xo

A precious five liner that, unfortunately, I and many FS writers can identify with. Best wishes for the contest and count yourself fortunate that The Lord granted you such a good husband.

Thank you Jim, I know you can identify with me in missing that part of your life that has moved on. I was fortunated to have a wonderful husband for 61 years and I know I will see him again.

Had I not been a fool for my younger wife, I possibly would have enjoyed that number of years, as well. But, I'm thankful for 31!

A beautiful, but haunting poem about lost love. I'm sure there are many moments that make you think of the one you lost. Your poem was very well written,

Your heart is on the page, and you've expressed yourself poignantly, Beth.
Evan is awaiting you in God's good time. That is my belief and I truly hope it comforts you. That does not mean grief is not a persistent visitor. I'm certain you miss him every day!

There is a quiet melancholy about this beautifully presented poem. It portrays quiet grief and loneliness after loss. Well done. Best wishes for the contest.

Lovely, Beth! This is very atmospheric and I can almost feel the sensation of that moonlight filtering through. I like your use of the word 'subdued' to describe the scene but also the emotion of the narrator. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Thank you Debbie. I'm pleased you like my poem. I find these short poems much harder to write than the longer rhymed ones.
