As a brother who lost a sister I loved much more than I ever let her know. This wonderful heart warming story really touched me in my softest place. My sister and I had our share of battles, we were both very stubborn, never giving a quarter. Then all of a sudden she got married and had three children which softened her considerably. She then three things for me that were so generous that I could not find the words to express my gratitude. I published my first book in an effort to give her something that she would not refuse. Sadly she passed away just weeks before the book was published. My regret is palpable, but there is nothing I can do.

Most of us who have lost a sibling feel that way. I lost my youngest brother last November, and although I told him daily that I loved him, sometimes it sounded... I can't find the word. But I did love him very much and miss him terribly. So I do understand exactly how you feel, and I am so sorry for your loss. We both believe we will be reunited one day, that is what we must cling to, that day will come in God's time, not ours. I might even hazzard a guess that your sister has read your book.
Thank you so much for reading my story, I'm so pleased you liked it. You are a dear soul, my friend. Warmest hugs, Sandra xxx

You're head always in gear, even when you don't think it is. You're one of those special personalities that just makes me smile and enjoy everything you write. I hope you swat those blahs away. Thanks for sharing. :-)

This is an excellent story. I'll this happened to you. I'm so sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. My appendix burst too, and so did my daughters. We all had close calls. I hope you soo feel like writing again. I glad you posted this.

Hi Beth, thank you for reading this one and for your love kind comments. This is totally fiction, but I had acute appendicitis in Spain when I was living there. It did nearly kill me, so I knew roughly how to write that part. Having your appendix burst must have been really painful. I'm glad you and your daughters survived it. Thank you again, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

I think it's a great story of how this young man learns not to take his sister for granted. You constructed it well, with the cavalier, romping attitude of the children going to pick winkles suddenly dropping into this life and death moment. The desperation in the little boy's voice as he realizes the danger for his sister, and how much he really loves her, comes through loud and clear here. And you have that sigh of relief kind of ending. The colloquialisms in the language of the kids makes them come alive, full of personality and character. It makes them seem real and that we are there with them as this moment unfolds. estory

What a lovely review, dear estory! I'm so pleased you enjoyed this one with Valerie and Reggie. That you think I showed the desperation and fear in Reggie's voice is such a nice compliment. The sixth star is the cherry on top of your amazing words. Thank you, dear friend. Warmest hugs, Sandra xxxx

Hi Sandra, are you okay? Now you have me a bit worried. Please do reassure me.
I'm sorry I have no six to give you, but this is a beautiful ending to the story. I hope you will be back soon with the giraffe stories. A big hug, Ulla xxx

Thank you, Ulla. The sixes don't bother me, it's the words that count. I'm having problems with my breathing still and will be back at the hospital again tomorrow. I have to say they are really looking after me, even phoning to check on me. I didn't realise how ill I was during December and January, and I've not fully recovered all this time after. It gets me down at times, and I don't feel like doing anything, which I must try to get out of. Sorry to have worried you, but I will get there in time. Thanks for reading this one. Love and hugs, my friend. Sandra xx

Sandra, thank you for coming back to me. Of course I worry about you. I'm so sorry you're still struggling, but I'm glad to hear the hospital is looking out for you. I know you have a will of iron. I'm right behind you and thinking about you. Lots of love and hugs, Ulla xxx

You did a great job with this chapter, Sandra. You captured the characters' emotions very well. The best part was the love that Reggie was showing for his sister. Even his father was impressed. She was very lucky that people acted right away and called an ambulance. They were also lucky that the doctor knew right away what the problem was and acted accordingly.
Everyone was deeply concerned, and even the doctor said it was going to be touch and go. Reggie took it upon himself to go to the hospital and the doctor allowed him to spend time with Valerie. He was very patient and knew the best thing was to keep talking so that she would respond.
Eventually it worked, and she even had a sense of humor as she asked her brother to write down all the nice things he had said. He was very patient with her and seemed to know what to do in letting her know to just take a small sip of water. A good ending to the chapter, as well. A great job, my friend.

Thank you so very much for this detailed, lovely review, dear Pam. I'm glad you enjoyed it. In a strange way, Valerie feels she did get her revenge, but even she wouldn't have wanted to do it that way. Thank you for the sixth star, dear friend. I really appreciate both. Love you lots. Sandra xxx

You are very welcome for the stars and review, Sandra. I appreciate your reply, and I agree with you about Valerie. It will be interesting to see the dynamic between brother and sister after this.

Thank you so very much, Santha, for all your lovely comments. You have made my day, in fact, you've made my whole year!!
Everyone seems to have enjoyed Reggie's prayer, which I'm really pleased about, I thought I might get a few niggles about it. Thank you, my dear friend. And a big hugs for the golden star! Love and hugs coming back to you. :)) Sandra xxx

That's sweet. Brothers and sisters may fight, but when it gets right down to it, they love each other. But I'd bet that later she'll tease him and he'll deny everything.

Sandra, This is a very good chapter you have penned. I was hoping she would be alright too. You used great dialogue, but I don't see how you can use that kind of dialogue. Great job as always! love and blessings, Teri

Thank you so much, Teri, for reading this one. I pulled out much of this from personal experience, not with my brother, but with a school friend who died from a burst appendix. He was only ten.
I wasn't sure what you meant by: ...but I don't see how you can use that kind of dialogue... Anyway, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Warmest hugs, Sandra xxx

Just marvellous, Sandra. I have to confess it brought a tear to my eye! So authentic in every way. I'm in awe.
Many parts I could pick out, but this struck me for its underlying emotional intensity: The fear in her eyes was a small reflection of the fear she felt inside.
