I have a feeling the girl's sister is somehow involved or you wouldn't have mentioned her. I can't wait to read more. Thank you for sharing.
It's the longest I've slept in in more than a year. (I know what you're trying to say, but I had to reread in order to understand. It needs a rewrite. Maybe, 'I hadn't slept in for almost a year.)
I flick over the page as I sit down at the table and my eyes scan the paper. (you can omit 'down' it's understood.)
