This is a wonderful poem! Your words in the last stanza express the feeling that we all should hold onto when grieving for a loved one. Very well done.

This is a poem that provides an opportunity to ponder one's feelings on the ending of life. Opinions may change as one ages and gains wisdom, that last breath may now appear as a next step, a natural progression, the reaching of a goal rather than something to be sad or afraid of. The uneven construct of the lines and rhythm do not detract or distract, but work together. Good rhyming. Nicely done!

Your final line is so awesome. Yes, we change and grow with every breath we take no matter how old. Being grateful is what's important.

Great poem with good strong rhymes and a lovely message.

Take care!

This seemed above average to me, so I'm giving it six stars. I liked the rhythm you put together, even with the unusual stops at the end of every line. It kind of built a rhythm like climbing a ladder rung by rung, and that underscored this theme of climbing out of this world and into the next one. I always like it when the framework enhances the theme. There's a great, modest, self depreciating tone the voice here, a resignation with the natural progression of things, of death being a part of life rather than an eraser. The opening line grabbed me right away: "To breathe my last would be a curiosity." Right away I could tell it was different and went beyond the average pale. Nice imagination and effort in the construction of this. estory

I celebrated my 76th birthday yesterday, and I can't deny that thoughts of how many more I would ever be around to see did drift through my mind. I have witnessed the loss of many before me, and I know that I am fortunate to be alive. There are regrets and sad times, but the good memories warm my final days. When the door opens and I am called, I know I will go joyously to the arms of those who left me behind.

Author,
Your poem is really beautiful. I'm 66 and wondering what my legacy on earth will be. I hope for a better world in the afterlife. But I might go kicking and screaming. Lol .
You take a realistic approach about dying, and ascending to new heights.
Best wishes,
Cindy

I found the theme of this poem most intriguing. I think you have wonderfully captured the thoughts of many older folks, in your lines, and while the meter seemed unusual, the rhymes were original and clever. I did enjoy reading this. MM

This is quite a sad piece, but I think I too would like to be in a position where I look back on my life and realise that it is has been a life well lived. A well written piece, I really enjoyed reading it.

An interesting perspective. Yes, every breath brings us closer to being completed, where completeness is the full sun of our breraths and our time on earth. Death is the end of this life, but is the doorway into the next. A fine and thoughtful poem.
