It's always fun to work with kids who want to be there and learn. Thirty plus years ago, I got an associated degree in computer programming. The language taught was COBOL. The only thing I really got out of it was I didn't like computers. LOL I enjoyed reading and you're doing a good job with this story.

Thanks so much, Barbara. I've heard from a number of folks who didn't like programming. In fact, after the first class I ever took in it, I didn't like it either. It wasn't until about 8 years later that I taught it to myself using a book in Microsoft Basic. Then I loved it and went back to school where I learned more.

Darn it, Jim. You're making me show my age. I remember attending a community college 1973ish and learning about all that computer mumbo-jumbo. That's why I switched to accounting. Numbers I understand. I can't grasp jumbo-jumbo.

You also brought back memories of my kids and dances, girls, boys etc.

I cracked up at "jinx"... I remember my kids and there friends with that , punch buggy, you name it.

Great chapter. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks so much, John. The first computer class I ever took I also hated. It's amazing I ever ended up with it as my eventual profession after that first class which was just an elective. I think it's all in how it's taught, because that first teacher was horrible.

My grandkids do that jinx stuff all the time. That's what reminded me of it.

Good writing.
I'm only moderately surprised that one or both of the kids didn't ask to go to McDonald's, or somewhere. Even with a chaperone/chauffeur they would prob'ly try to push limits. (smiley face here)

Soon enough, although he won't seem that way at first, and the excitement comes later. However, very soon we'll be meeting an old friend who you will remember. There was a clue to that in this chapter, and her experience will be particularly relevant to what comes later.

I thought this was well written. I especially liked how you captured the nervousness and excitement of Tommy's first date and the warmth of the Christmas celebrations. The dialogue between the characters flowed naturally. Especially in the class. Talking into the mouse was just a few years too early! This was an enjoyable read.
