The comma on "dog people" needs to be inside the quotes, not outside. That's not a big deal, though.
Your story was touching. It's amazing how some people can think of others when they are going through something bad in their own lives. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you and Sunny.

A very satisfying and reciprocal arrangement as you say, Wendy! What a delight and escape it must be for those dear patients to interact with the rescue dogs. Perhaps you could bring Sunny over here to perk up our good old King Charles? A lovely, heart warming story. Thank you, Debbie

Thank you so much Debbie. Love your review. Hope your "good old King Charles" makes a speedy recovery, and hope he has the love and comfort of a dog to help him through the bad times which probably lie ahead.

Hi, Wendy. This is Sam. I am now acting as a therapy dog for Paul's wife. She stated chemo a couple of weeks ago, so when I visit, I try to snuggle up to her and give her comfort. I think I could become a therapy dog, but I'm quite old, and my hearing is not good. Give my best to Sunny.

Sam, you are definitely a therapy dog, just "unofficial". I think most of us are unofficial therapy dogs, beause the love we give is just what humans need. Wendy is upset to learn your wife has cancer, but knows you and Paul and the whole family will all do your best to offer love, comfort and strength to her as she goes through this.
    Love, Sunny
Hi Paul, devastating news, but I will pray for you both and hope the chemo is not too draining for her. Best wishes, and thinks for letting me know.

Thanks for praying, Wendy. No unpleasant effects from the chemo so far.

I am convinced you have wings and a halo that you stash in a drawer before you go out among the mere mortals of the world. Seriously, you are THE most caring, compassionate and genuinely appreciative woman in my world. What a beautiful story this is. So glad I got to read it today. Thank you for the spirit-lifter. xoxox

Thank you Rachelle. I am so glad you enjoyed it. Now if you met me, you would say "She's very plain and ordinary ... and really quite boring!" Lol.

Nope, I know I would NOT say that, because I spend every day of my life finding the deep down good in my students, and it spills over into all the other people I encounter on a daily basis, as well. I pride myself on being able to do this, and I like to think I've honed it to an art form. I recognize deep-down quality the moment they're in my presence. It doesn't matter what their outsides look like. xoxox

That was a very sweet story, Wendy, about a valuable service you are providing for cancer patients. I'm sure it is a bright spot in their day to be visited by a loving animal who likes being around them too. I'm sure it warms your heart to see it and volunteer your time this way.

I once read a very sweet book about Dewey the library cat who provided a similar service working with his owner at the library where she was a librarian. He befriended everyone who came in the door and would often sit in their laps and let them pet him. He grew up in the library, having been placed in the book return slot one frigid winter night by some unthinking and desperate person. He nearly froze to death in there before being rescued in the morning. - Jim

Thank you so very much for this delightful review. Yes, it is a delight to me too, and the joy and pleasure they receive from the dogs is my reward. I loved your story about Dewey, and I plan to google and see if I can find out more. That's my kind of story!

I love these stories. I love how you share a part of your life that few people will ever experience. Some of the stories are encouraging and uplifting, some eye opening and leave the reader thinking about how their own lives differ from the stories you present. Beautifully written. Gretchen

I love that. Dogs can just brighten a room and make even the worse circumstances seem bearable. On our walking route we take there's still a little dog that I play with. I look forward to the little dog and he still watches out of the window for me. It's the best when I'm having a bad day and he'll come running for me. There's nothing better. You're making all the difference in the world. Of course they remember when the dogs will be there. I would too.

There's that "halo" again! Wendy, you are a walking inspiration for all of us. Your heart and smile reach out to everyone. My mother had cancer (3x) but was lucky enough to remain in her home. The doctors were dumb-founded at her lack of pain even though the cancer had eaten away at her spine and so many other places. I was beyond thankful. but if we'd been confined to a hospital, It would have been a blessing and a miracle to have someone like you. I'm sure you've brightened many lives.

Hugs, Carol

The dogs make a huge difference, and it is so lovely to see everyone's face light up on seeing them. But they are th conduit to relaxed and happy conversation about non-medical things, and memories etc. I am sure the dogs help to reduce anxiety and blood pressure. A lovely review - thank you so much. (When we meet in heaven you will notice there's no halo, and you will think, "Huh, she's just a very ordinary person!") Hugs.

Good morning, Wendy,
You are so incredibly unselfish.
I loved reading your post.
And I smiled to think that three little gifts of cheese were waiting for Sunny and his two companions.
A wonderful post that speaks volumes about the art of giving and receiving and the little moments in life that touch our lives...

Thank you for sharing, Wendy!

Thank you Diane. Yes, it's these little moments. I did wonder later about whether I was silly to write about a piece of cheese for a dog, but it was actually a very moving experience. It showed appreciation and thanks and how much the visits mean to him. I was actually quite touched at the thoughtfulness.
Thank you so much for reviewing.

The dogs that work don't go around thinking, "Will I get paid?" They enjoy the experience as much as the receiver, maybe more. And I suspect it is a nice event for the handler too. Thank you.

Yes, you are absolutely right. It always is a pleasure for us to see the lift that they get from our visits, and that's sufficient reward, and the dogs just love what they do.
