Great to see you post... Your book is right here on my desk and I use it as my poetic touchstone to keep it real.
Life's a tough journey, made tougher my an oppressive social system.
Your a voice we need!
Keep writing and keep doing those poetry slams!

Hi Charity
This poem is long but it hits a lot of topics about the poor and how they are so often ignored by those better off. Also it also shows that maybe some of the middle class are going toward the poor end because congress and its laws always makes them pay more while the rich pay less. Next, it reminds us to be charitable and to always try to break down barriers,
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a good rest of the day and week.

This is a visceral, honest, brilliant poem. You have the inside view and you have communicated it very well. You describe a cycle of poverty that seems impossible to break out of, and yet you have found a way to serve your community and communicate effectively with those outside of it. Well done!

This was a great piece. You spoke so clearly and with such passion. I felt as if I was standing in a crowd as you spoke standing on a box just a head above the crowd. the more you splke the more people who came to listen.

So much said. Trying to take it all in really. I have never been in a desperate condition so my perspective on many things is rather limited. I have family and friends who have seen darker sides than I. But unless one is in the trenches, one never can truly understand the pain. Very well expressed.

Welcome back, Charity. Long time no see. You have written a very strong story/poem about your situation and thousands of other Afro-Americans who don't have a chance in hell. You have a clever mind and don't waste it. I believe you try your best to help sisters and brothers. While the whites rule, even in my country; there is no chance. They stole our ancestors, made them slaves, and couldn't give a hoot about where our next meal came from. Keep writing friend.

Yes, you are the voice of the streets, and not ashamed of it but proud to declare the truths you see of injustice, lack of compassion, and people set up to fail, the hopelessness and desperation. People need to be made aware, and yours is the voice, raw and authentic with lived experience. Keep speaking up.

Happy to welcome you back. Your poetic voice has been missed. We will never have too many brave voices that speak the hard edged truth that is necessary to keep us from losing sight of the fact that there is far too much need that is going unfulfilled. Keep spitting the truth, as you see it , as you live it. Those of us who have grown old and feeble in our old age have trouble remembering what day it is. we need the voice, the courage, the strength of people like you. Welcome back.
