All the time I've been a Christian, I have wondered why God responds to, and what He doesn't, and I'm convinced He responds always to the prayer of faith, but He may not answer it in the way we think, beautifully written Gretchen, well done, blessings Roy

I try not to second guess His reasoning. He will do what needs to be done. Not always according to our plans. Gretchen

You describe a warm relationship between father and daughter here and I enjoyed this gentle write with a secret hidden inside Heddy's head as she is not lying, just not spilling the beans, love Dolly x x x

I love reading about Heddy and her father spending the evening together by the big fire. It's reassuring to a child to know that parents won't lie to them. Looking forward to the next chapter.

I enjoy the closeness between father and daughter, and his honesty with her. Yes, Heddy is a thinker. I hope Artie is genuine, and will do her no harm. Also interesting perceptions about the need for care for older people and their difficulty in accepting the loss of their independence. I suppose it's necessary and wise .... Very well written, and very thoughtful.

Thank you, Wendy. I see patients every day who lose their independence. Some are grateful while others ... not exactly. Gretchen

Hmm, this is a well written and peaceful chapter. I really enjoyed the loving and special tone and conversation between father and daughter, just hanging out and bonding. You did a great job capturing the moments we never forget and treasure.

Heddy is a luck girl. She has a daddy who spends time with her and doesn't lie to her. I hope Artie is as good a man as he seems, but I also wonder if he is a draft dodger or a German spy. There were quite a few of those in WWII.

I'm honestly not sure who Artie is. I don't think he's dangerous. Thank you for this awesome review. Gretchen

This story is well written and engaging. If it were a book on the beach house shelf and I picked it up and read only that much, I'd definitely take it down to the beach for a longer read. Nothing felt forced and the story seemed to flow. Well done.

Nicely written.
Great father-daughter dialogue.
We call that a 'white man's fire'. Indians built small, smokeless fires to hide their position - and to conserve fuel. Who wants to work that hard gathering firewood?
Best wishes.
