Oh dear, such a sad ending and sounding as if Heddy's brother (?) has been either seriously injured or killed. Although, if killed, one would think the information would have come from a more official source. I'm really enjoying this lovely escape you're giving the reader and particularly the strong rapport between Heddy and her grandmother (in turn contrasting with the rather more restrained and less animated relationship with her mother) This is a truly magical read which hooks me in every time. Thanks for sharing, Gretchen. Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I think Heddy realizes her mother is fragile. Nonni was more down to earth. Gretchen

Oh dear! We don't get to find out how badly he's been hurt. I hope it's not serious. But the way you have ended this, does tend to make me think it is.

This is another wonderful chapter, my friend, I'm enjoying the non-stop read. :)) Sandra xxx

This letter isn't at all good, is it? I really like this story and you're doing a great job writing it. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I stomp my foot on the step as I sit down. (you can omit, 'down', it's understood)

Thank you, Barbara. I'm not sure if he's critical or just dictated the letter. I'll know when you do. Gretchen

Great chapter, Gretchen!

The hanger in this is perfect and has us believing he may be deceased. I'm considering the fact that Nonni would have given some foreshadowing for the reader, so I'm guessing his life may be in peril but not dead? Perhaps?

Great story! I'm hooked! Best, JohnC

Thanks, John. He isn't dead but I'm not sure if he's critical or just dictated the letter. I'll find out about the same time as you. Lol. Gretchen

Nice ending to the chapter.
This is very well written. You allow us to feel like Heddy is a real person. I like that Nonni doesn't admonish her for speaking with the man.
Best wishes.

Nonni is more like a conscience. At least in my mind. A spirit who let's Heddy do what she wants but guides her. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Oh dear. This situation affected so many families all around the world. Let's hope for the sake of his family that Willis recovers. I continue to enjoy Heddy's interactions with her grandmother.

Hello Gretchen,
I love the way you capture the way a little girl thinks and speaks. Especially the part about running to meet her father and being able to receive his hug unharmed, unlike most people. Well done gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Thanks, Tom. My father passed when I was thirteen. I remember thinking he was larger than life. I'm trying to have Heddy see her father the way I remember seeing mine. I really appreciate the six. Gretchen

Hello Gretchen, I'm so sorry to hear that your dad passed at such a crucial time in your life. He missed out on so many high points in your life I'm sure.

Oh boy... the dreaded letter a momma receives when her boy is off at war.

I enjoy your style of writing. I don't know how to explain it other than saying, it's quiet, soothing and makes me feel like I'm right there enjoying the play.

Now I have to wait to find out what happened to the son.
John

Heddy is a very fortunate young lady, she's got a momma and a dad who love her dearly, not to mention a dead Nonni who watches over her with old fashioned wisdom and support, as nonni's do, my grands have the, I wonder why momma is crying, not good news, beautifully written, blessings Roy

An excellent chapter again, but leaving the reader with so many questions. Well done! I do enjoy the realism and authenticity of the two parenting styles and the relationships with Heddy. Always good.

Thank you, Wendy. This was how I was raised. My dad was superman and my mom had rules. I broke most. Lol. I'm glad you are enjoying this. Gretchen
